Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

A dance music institution, with their own label, club, and a vast roster of contributing artists to choose from, Ministry of Sound is able to draw from a deep well of resources. But instead of showing off a mix that ranges as far as their own DJ universe, their 2004 Annual compilation stays focused, concentrating on a slick, pretty blend. When it works, falling just barely toward the light before leaning over into shadow, the effect is dreamland dance, yielding subtle surprises and nonchalant mood swings. Deepest Blue starts the two-disc set off with just such a delicate gap, contrasting a cheesy vocal against a thick, electro baseline. Robbie Rivera’s "Girlfriend" also baits-and-switches, pummeling guest vocalist Keylime’s swirling chorus with a fat verse of dark beats. The collection does push its luck sometimes: Angel City’s take on Ready for the World’s "Oh Sheila" is one of the more unnecessary remakes. On the other hand, Tiga’s version of "Hot In Herre" injects white-boy electroclash into Nelly’s booty shaker, producing a bizarre, but fun musical marriage. Skilled at helping DJs blossom, the good people at MOS find lots of good soil in the cracks between rhythms. --Matthew Cooke

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets better with every year, November 23, 2003

Very good collection of music for your pleasure. The mixes are of very good techno/dance/club styles and should be very enjoyable for a clubber or anyone who likes the lable. although MoS tends to repeat their music selections throughout their numerous CD's this particular set is quite different and rises above the rest in its different themes and sounds. Enjoy.

I bought this set a couple of years ago...it is pretty good overall. The second CD is undeniably better than the first. "Deepest Blue", "Burned With Desire" and "Pretty Green Eyes" are the highlights in this set. Not the best, but better than average.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Agree With Everyone...this is not an "Annual", August 17, 2006
This review is from: Ministry of Sound Presents: Annual 2004 (Audio CD)
Let's see...this shouldn't even be called an Annual...none of this songs are hits of 2003, and most of them are plaine borring long irritating mixes. There's about 5/24 songs I like which are "Deepest Blue," "Love Me Right," "Burned With Desire," "As the Rush Comes," and "Pretty Green Eyes" the rest are either ok or they just suck...

I'd recommend the UK edition...now that is a good compilation.
