4.0 out of 5 stars Great 2-Deck CD . . .

Trance Nation 2 was a great CD, the only reason I gave a four star is for having few songs back from the early 90's and one that was from '89 by 808 State (good song though). You won't find this kind of compliation on the state side which is sad, to dish out extra few bucks for an import.

Overall, most of you trance craze fans will like this CD. The way the...

Trance Nation 2 is exactly what I have come to expect from M of S: 40 anthems squeezed onto 2 75 minutes CDs. 3.0 out of 5 stars Typical Ministry of Sound, December 27, 1999

Trance Nation 2 is exactly what I have come to expect from M of S: 40 anthems squeezed onto 2 75 minutes CDs. It would be tolerable if they were all current anthems that they haven't already included on a half dozen other compilations, but come on, do I really need "El Nino" and "Love Stimulation" and "Out of the Blue" for the umpteenth time? Ferry Corsten's mixing is pretty much par for M of S (songs are mixed in about half a minute towards the end of the track; nothing creative or original is attempted), but at least his mixes aren't as hideous or abrupt as those of Judge Jules. A few good songs that are current stormers, like Armin's "Commununication", "Heaven Scent" and "Avenue." But for the most part, this is a retread of every other 1999 trance mega-mix. If you don't have many of these songs already I suppose it is worth getting.

It is too bad that living in the States, in order to get all the current trance anthems, you pretty much are forced to pay import prices and get dodgy mix albums like this, but that is the price trance lovers must pay (literaly and figuratively).

Overall, most of you trance craze fans will like this CD. The way the soothing music starts out and the music slows down with an anthem . . . & heart pounding beat starts surrounding the song that makes you wanna dance all night!

My favorite was ATB "Don't Stop", Matt Darey's "Liberation", Armin's "Communication", Ayla's "Ayla", DJ Jurg "Better Off Alone", System F "Out of the Blue".

Great selection of euro hits which include ATB, Sasha and Brainbug. Buyers should also look at the first volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, August 30, 2000

First things first -- System F is a great dj, and his musical selection is second to none on this compilation, especially the second cd. I would buy this set solely for the second cd. Simply put, he has some unbelievable songs, including Electrique Boutique's Revelation. That song alone deserves all my respect. Aside from this song, Ferry does an excellent job mixing and does ustice to the trance genre. Although some people may disagree that Ferry cuts a little fast, I think it works and that is just his style. Once you learn to accept his style, you will enjoy his work that much more. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars this CD is definitely bumpin and uplifting!, December 24, 2000
This review is from: Ministry of Sound: Trance Nation 2 (Audio CD)
I am new to the trance music scene, and this cd is what music is all about--it transcends dimensions and brings out ur flavor. I loved Trance Nation 1 and Trance Nation 2 is even more satisfying. If ur new to trance music, this one is a must! I got this in the mail 3 days ago, and find myself listenin to it every chance i get. Ferry Corsten knows how to tear it up--I can't talk highly enough of this cd--it's not just a cd, it's a beautiful experience...the Quintessential Party in a box at its most superior.

Try as I might, I can't think of any reason to give this compilation less than five stars. People have commented that the transitions between tracks are too abrupt, but they work well enough.

All tracks have great build ups, show sufficient complexity to raise this music to the next level and employ many layerings that make relistening a rewarding experience.

Disc two is slightly better than the first. My favourite tracks are Flaming June by BT, and Gamemaster by Lost Tribe.

This is a great buy for fans of trance and those who are new to the genre. This is one of the first trance albums I bought and I haven't found anything better. Even non-trance fans should appreciate the variety of tone colours, infectious rhythms and anthemic quality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overhyped and overpriced, November 20, 2000

This double disk set with its fancy slipcase costs 45.99 here in Canada and I'd just like to know why. All the tracks are nothing new and each song has that basic trancy high in the middle of its length. There's nothing wrong with that, I don't really mind how it may seem too formulaic for people. But there's too many songs on each disk, and mix doesn't get a chance to really go into each song and make you care for it. This is basically just the year's best songs on a double disk cd but the mixing is sloppy at times as the transition from each song to another song isn't really that smooth. I'm not testing Ferry Corsten's skills as a DJ, but he's probably capable of more. If only they could make him part of the Global Underground series. . .
