This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath (DVD)
This bare bones dvd contains 13 Ministry videos. What more needs to be said. It rocks, and you will too, every time you play this:
from Twitch: Over the Shoulder from Land of Rape and Honey: Stigmata Flashback from Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste: Burning Inside from In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up: Land of Rape and Honey from Psalm 69: Jesus Built my Hotrod N.W.O. Just One Fix from Filth Pig: Lay Lady Lay Reload from Dark Side of the Spoon: Bad Blood from Linger Ficken Good, as Revolting Cocks: Crackin' Up Do Ya Think I'm Sexy I almost gave this dvd 4 stars because there is NO extra material at all, and I'd dearly love to see an interview with Troubled Al and his minions, but I couldn't bring myself to give it anything less than a 5 -- it's the best hard rock in our universe.

one of the best music DVDs out there!,

This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath (DVD)
all I have to say is my favourite videos are "stigmata" and "flashback". the funniest video has to be the cover of "do ya think I'm sexy". it's just great. the cheesiest has to be "crackin' up". even "over the shoulder" wasn't that cheesy. but anyways, the audio is in 2channel stereo... and the videos are the video versions of the songs... not exactly the originals--which is what makes it even better. unfortunately the video for "jesus built my hotrod" is edited... they reversed the "let's hit the f**kin' road" sample from the redline/whiteline version. but all in all... if you want to see your favourite ministry music videos, pick this one up! I like 8 of 14 of the videos. but I think they should have included the entire "in case you didn't feel like showing up" live concert just to get a better rating. or... if there are any LARD videos out there... they could also include the video for there new song from the "A.I." soundtrack. =) since my Ramms+ein Live Aus Berlin DVD doesn't work, I'd have to say this is my favourite music DVD. track listing: (1)over the shoulder (2)stigmata (3)flashback (4)burning inside (5)the land of rape and honey (live from in case you didn't feel like showing up) (6)jesus built my hotrod (7)n.w.o. (8)just one fix (9)lay lady lay (10)reload (11)bad blood (12)crackin' up (13)do ya think i'm sexy (14)credits

The definitive video collection!,
By
This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath (DVD)
Like I said, this is the definitive video collection. All the cool ones I've seen on MTV late night, and even a few I never knew existed (probably cuz they could never be aired). Contains everything up to Bad Blood, and even includes two revolting cocks videos; seeing Cracking Up in its entirety was a real treat. The video quality is at least as good as I remember seeing them on tv, and the sound is killer. The only bad things about this video are the fact that it has NO extras at all, just "play videos" and "video select", and the fact that it comes in a stupid snap case. Overall, definitely worth every penny for real Ministry fans...now, if only Skinny Puppy would release something like this, I could die happy :)

All the classic Ministry Videos dating WAY back,

This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath (DVD)
If you have been following industrial music for a long time or you are a Ministry fan you will love this DVD! This has most all the Mnistry videos dating way back to the days of Twitch (My personal favorite Ministry release) with "Over the Shoulder". Other great videos include "Stigmata", "Flashback", "Burning Inside", "The Land of Rape and Honey", "Jesus Built My Hotrod" and one of my personal favorite videos was for the side project Revolting Cocks cover of "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy".As a Ministry fan, a Industrial music fan and a Industrial DJ I highly recommend you own this DVD! If you also happen to spin videos at your club this DVD is worth owning as all the videos are good enough quality for play.

These Videos Coined The Term Industrial,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a great video for Ministry fans. Not only does it show the progression of Al Jourgenson from 1985-1999, it also has two Revolting Cocks videos, which are a great addition to any fan's collection. The RevCo videos are great, showing the humorous side of the Ministry members. If only for Timothy Leary dancing around to "Crackin' Up" or William Burroughs "smashing the control images" with a shotgun in the "Just One Fix video," you will be very satisfied with this purchase. TAPES OF WRATH makes me long for some LARD videos. Al, keep it coming.

A Great Collection of Ministry Videos...,
By
This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath (DVD)
...and even some Revolting Cocks videos thrown in for good measure. Ministry was always a powerhouse industrial-metal group, and their music makes a bold statement of how to rock and how to rock loud. TAPES OF WRATH showcases videos from much of their career (discounting the drag of WITH SYMPATHY). The best videos on the disc are the timeless "Just One Fix" with its deep-rooted images, some frightening. Also, the industrial and darkly comedic "N.W.O." is another classic, as well as the early "Stigmata" and "Burning Inside" videos. If you are a true Ministry fan, you'll want to pick this up along with the SPHINCTOUR dvd. Also very worthy for the two Revolting Cocks videos for "Crackin' Up" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", which are both funny and brilliant.

Despite no extras, this is a must own for Ministry fans,

Featuring every music video from Ministry up until their last album with Warner Bros. (1999's "Dark Side of the Spoon"), Tapes of Wrath is a must have for any and every Ministry fan. The only downside is that there are absolutely no extras whatsoever, which isn't surprising considering this was more than likely a quick cash in attempt by Warner Bros. before subsequently dumping the band from the label. Despite that, all the videos one would expect, such as "Stigmata", "Burning Inside", "Jesus Built My Hot Rod", "N.W.O.", "Just One Fix", and "Reload" are here, as well as the videos for "Crackin' Up" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" from the Ministry side project the Revolting Cocks. All in all, even though there is no extra material to be found on this DVD, Tapes of Wrath is still a must own for Ministry fans one and all.

Truth in shredding,
By loteq (Regensburg/Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath (DVD)
With a name taken from John Steinbeck's famous novel "The Grapes of Wrath", this 66-minute DVD disc achieves two aims simultaneously: Ministry's first, career-spanning "Greatest hits/Best of.." package and the band's first video clip compilation, also featuring two masterful bonus cuts from Al's side project RevCo. It opens with the extended mix of "Over the shoulder", originally appearing on the CD release of Ministry's 1985 album "Twitch". This is the only clip on this DVD which really remains in the world of narrative video, moving between various obscure scenes where you can see two boys stealing a car and then cruising through the city at night, a burglar who gets into a supermarket, and a man who cooks a decidedly ugly meal made of fried eggs with two inch nails covered in engine oil. Al's 'pineapple haircut' needs to be seen, and the music with its clanging, nerve-racking percussion and manic singing makes the whole thing pretty claustrophobic. Furthermore, this video displays a somewhat warped vision of the man-machine-interface: The car ends up in the shredder, but the roles of the human beings in this story remain unclear. The camera work is highly professional and accomplished, making "Over the shoulder" one of the best videos in this selection. The next few tracks are also taken from Ministry's pre-"Psalm 69" output, including the title track of "The land.." as well as "Stigmata", "Flashback", and "Burning inside". "Flashback", in particular, provides a rather fractured, hyperkinetic style with speeded-up images of thunderstorms and, again, nighttime urban landscapes; though it often suggests the extreme speed rather than musically putting it into action. "Burning inside" and "The land.." offer some footage of live performances while stylistically remaining a little unfocused and not as gripping as "Over the shoulder". However, the fragments of several stories about 'burning' and riots as well as the band's martial outfits mirror the audio very well. So, after releasing a couple of albums and singles which are undisputed stars in the industrial firmament, what did Al and Paul do next? Suddenly, the duo's contemporaries like Nitzer Ebb and Skinny Puppy were no longer valid comparisons - with 1992's "Psalm 69", the new and commercially very successful Ministry had more in common with heavy metal acts. At their most catchy and melodic, Ministry were the industrial ZZ Top, but that's not exactly indispensable. "Jesus built.." is indeed very different from the band's previous output, using episodes from old black-and-white movies interspersed with studio shots of the band. "N.W.O." and "Just one fix" (featuring a keyboard player, although such an instrument fails to surface in the mix!), well, these two clips are primarily a repetitive circle of violent images, as well as a detailed portray of the band's dress code. Look at the kinky hats and all the sunglasses. However, at times it's only the sociocritical message that stops Ministry from being a highly cliched metal outfit which is only good for moshing and air-guitaring. "Lay lady lay", originally written by Bob Dylan, is a more mood-setting and relaxing, if unremarkable effort. "Reload", the only track from 1996's "Filth pig" album on this DVD, comes across with a very muddled sound and has little to offer, but 1999's "Bad blood" is a terrific video: Ministry explain the pathological distinction between 'normal blood' and 'bad blood' in a visually and musically very attractive design. After this, RevCo's "Cracking up" provides stark contrasts to the brashness of the rest of the material; with its cartoon-like interweaving loops and spirals, this video is of course tailor-made for the DVD format. The song itself is a nice, almost radio-friendly tune which recalls funk-rock from the likes of Happy Mondays and Chilli Peppers. Another cover version surfaces with "Do ya think..", accompanying a somewhat frightening video which appears like a confluence between David Lee Roth's "California Girls" and Aphex Twin's "Come to daddy". Overall, the picture quality varies from perfectly clear ("Over..", "Flashback", "Bad blood", RevCo) to rather grainy and blurred; the sound quality (Linear PCM Stereo) is, for the most part, quite fine but not always a substitute for an audio compact disc. One thing which is annoying is the fact that there's no bonus material on this DVD, especially since Al and Paul have always liked to comment on their work and the American system in general. Apart from these flaws, this is a great collection due to the wide range of styles which are covered both visually and musically. Fans will find this is an irresistible item, and if you haven't bought any Ministry album yet, then this compilation might convert you to one of industrial-rock's most important bands.

Ministry FANS will love this DVD,
By Eric Stockard (Tempe, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath (DVD)
I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD. I've been a Ministry fan from first listen and this brings back memories of Al with his not-so-tough persona and lots of guts in music. Of course its not a complete story because it does exclude the earliest and the latest stuff, but Al and Paul are the first to admit their embarrasment with their first album and Dark Side of the Spoon wasn't out yet. Any real Ministry fan won't gripe about the production value of the DVD or lack of extras because most of this music isn't about being perfectly clear, its about being out there. This is straight forward Ministry. Enjoy Fans.

What do you mean it's Tapes of Wrath?,
By
This review is from: Ministry - Tapes of Wrath (DVD)
This DVD is fantastic! It sounds great through the surround sound system. If you are a true Ministry fan, you must have this DVD. It will make you want to trash your house and pop open a bottle of beer with some chips. The promotional videos were well put together. Unfortunately the promotional video for "TV II" was not included on the DVD. The live video for "The Land of Rape and Honey" was taken from the 'In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up' home video. This video was so cool! It was a good thing that the promotional video for "Revenge" was not included on the DVD because Al Jourgensen considered that particular promotional video as an abortion. Overall, the DVD was well put together. You will not be disappointed.
