Fun while mom's away,
By
This review is from: Minji's Salon (Hardcover)
Minji's Salon is a charming tale of a little girl who has fun playing beauty salon while her mother is off getting her hair done. It is told as a parallel tale. On the left we wordlessly see Minji's mother at a tres chic establishment being pampered. On the right is Minji making quite the mess while she performs her version of the same beauty treatment on her long-suffering pooch. Mother comes home to quite a surprise! The illustrations are a quirky delight. Also available in Spanish as El salon de Minji.

I wish there are more words in the book but my two year old loves to read it. She finally gets a book that has someone who looks like her.

This review is from: Minji's Salon (Hardcover)
Minji's mom has gone to the beauty salon for a haircut and color. Not content to wait idly at home for her mother's return, Minji decides to give the family dog a makeover as well. Just as the stylist and mother go through the steps of choosing a new style, mixing and applying the color, and adding the finishing touches, Minji and the dog do the same at home. While mother leaves the salon with an impeccable new hairdo, Minji's home-based services create a rather messy surprise.
This creative new book, first published in South Korea, gets top marks for its amusing story-line and expressive illustrations. Minji's Salon also does a nice job teaching children about professional businesses that provide services. One of the classic examples in economics textbooks of services is haircuts. This book takes the classic example and runs with it in an imaginative way, to the delight of young readers.

Cute picture book from South Korea,

Minji's Salon is a cute picture book from South Korea. In it a little girl styles her dog at the same time her mother is at the salon. The pictures are beautiful and it is so nice to see a child from South Korea! I like to present books with children from other cultures to my children. My son really liked the way the dog turned out with all the colors. Much of the story is told in pictures. I think it is nice for children, not quite reading, to be able to page through and imagine the story without feeling like they are missing all the words.
