Easy to use quick release.,

I mounted this MKA 21 quick release on my boat for my Power Drive trolling motor because it has a small foot print. It is easy to just put the trolling motor onto or to remove it. The locking pins do slide in kind of tight and I do have to struggle with it to slide it all the way through the mounting base. The directions said to drill out the base if that occurs but I don't want to drill out the holes and make things too sloppy either. Maybe Minn Kota needs to take another look at the design and hole size or the alignment? I still like this mount better than other designs and give it an eight on a scale of 1 to 10.

Love the mount, hate the handle,

I have had this quick release mount for about 3 years now, and actually bought an extra plate to mount on my other boat so I can swap the troll motor from one to the other. The handle with the stainless pins has always been a tight fight, but with a little tugging and pushing I am always able to get it after a few minutes. Unfortunately, today when I put the motor on my boat and started to push the handle through, the plastic handle broke right in the middle. I didn't realize there wasn't metal all the way through the handle until that moment, and because there is a big hole drilled through the middle of the plastic part, there are two thin areas of plastic on top & bottom. This is a weak point, and unfortunately you cannot just buy a replacement handle. I would have given the mount 5 stars except for this defective design with the handle, and no replacement available for purchase. I can probably fix this myself or jury-rig some sort of replacement, but it's disappointing to say the least.

I installed this on the front of my Ranger R70. Works great. It's really strong for plastic, and I doubt that it'll ever break. One thing I had to do was buy a new padlock for it. The hole in the bracket only takes a lock with a 1/4" shank, while most locks are slightly larger (I had lots of padlocks laying around, but none that would fit, and the local store only had one that was suitable). If you want a quick-release bracket for your Minn Kota, this is the way to go. It eliminates any sharp edges that you get with the aluminum brackets.

I bought this along with the new MinnKota trolling motor for a 24' Pontoon boat. Easy on and off! The locking feature is cool too. Recommend it.

The bracket works great. Minn Kota could have improved it by having a little more tolerance in the holes that receive the handle assembly. If they don't line up perfectly, MKota says to drill them out to make them bigger. Also ticked me off that they make you buy an entire assembly when all you need for a 2nd boat is the mounting puck.I called them about this and got nowhere.

Great Product,

The qiuck release mount was the answer to my need for a little more room when I am using my boat as a ski boat. It was a little tight when first mounted, but as the mounting instructions said, opening up the locking handle holes cured this problem easily.

Minn Kota Quick Release Bracket,

I bought this bracket to replace the one I received free with my Minn Kota V2-68 Pontoon trolling motor. It's a great idea, installed easily and works great. I've had it now for 2 years and I love it!The following is about the metal one I threw away. It was easy to mount on my pontoon boat with 4 bolts (included) and was easy to use. The problem was that it wasn't fully stable. When I cranked up my trolling motor to full speed, I got vibration, particularly when I was trying to turn. The only way to eliminate the vibration was to reduce throttle or to go "straight" (which still left a hint of vibration) I was disappointed that the quality of the bracket wasn't as good as the trolling motor.

I bought the MKA 21 because of the small footprint to put on my Lund Fisherman 1800. Had it professionally installed at the marina. The U shaped Locking Pin is too close to the carpet. Could not push it in all the way on my first fishing experience with this bracket so I took a chance and used it knowing the pin was not all the way in. I did not have a mallet to pound it in or a drill to ream out the pin holes because pin was too close to the carpet. It was a windy day and when I turned the trolling motor power up (80 lb thrust) to turn the boat the thrust of the motor bent the pin upward. I could not bend the pin down by hand. Had to take the bracket off the boat and take it home. Then I called a couple of Minn Kota Service Center's in my area to try and replace the locking U shaped pin. I was advised the locking pin was not an available part and I would have to buy another new plate. I would advise not to purchase this composite unit as the instructions states to drill out the holes for the pins if it is too tight. That would make it too sloppy. Minn Kota did not think of quality on this paticular unit. Not a satisified customer.

So far, this is a great mount! I have not had it in the water yet, but the install went perfect. For anyone that wants to be able to remove their trolling motor, this is a must have! Solid construction, simple mounting....I can't say enough. Ordering from Amazon was solid as well. Received discount through them, so the price was just right. I will update once I put it through it's paces....

The only problem I encountered on instalation was to place a shim under the mounting plate so the handle can be installed and removed to secure the trolling motor.
