Great power for my 16 ft boat and quiet operation.

I almost exclusively fish electric only lakes, and while that speed difference doesn't sound like much, it makes a huge difference.

On basis of experience so far, I can highly recommend this motor.

I've had my Minn Kota mounted on the transom of my O'Day DaySailer for a month now. I don't use the motor that much, but it does the job when I need it. At speed 5 it will move this 600-pound boat a good 5 mph, maybe better. It can push into 13-knot winds without a problem. Speeds 3 and 4 are good for slow approaches to dock or mooring. I have the Endura C2 55 freshwater model with 36" shaft.

A transom-mount motor on a sailboat always has the problem of fouling with the main sheet under certain wind conditions, but that has nothing to do with this brand of motor. I've had the main sheet wrap around the shaft in light winds on a broad reach or downwind, and sometimes when the sail is first raised and luffing under heavy winds. It's just something to look out for. (A shift from my Crosby rig to a traveler might cure this problem.)

The Minn Kota Endura seems very well-suited to a small sailboat. The movable shaft allows you to push the motor far out of the way to the stern, and you can tilt and rotate the shaft so that the propeller does not drag in the water. If you get into trouble, a quick pull on the release lock lowers the shaft into the water.

I'm an experienced sailor, and usually can leave and approach my mooring single-handed without need for a motor. I've used the motor for dock approaches, and to get out of the mooring area when wind direction and congestion prevent a safe sail out. My battery is still almost fully-charged after a month of light use. I'm hoping it will last the whole summer season next year without need for a charge. On basis of experience so far, I can highly recommend this motor. So far so good.

This motor Is fantastic. Got it today, put it in the water and it pushed my two man boat with about four hundred pound payload at about 5 miles per hour. The first motor I bought from Amazon was a Shakespeare 55 -Pound Thrust it broke down first time out what a disaster. Sent it back and got the Minn Kota what a differance.

I bought this motor to replace my old 36# thrust motor. Wow what a difference. My 12 foot aluminum boat went from a 1.8mph top speed to about 4.5mph. I almost exclusively fish electric only lakes, and while that speed difference doesn't sound like much, it makes a huge difference.

Good deal for the price. I have owned several Minn Kota motors and they seem to last 3-4 years in freshwater lake fishing. After awhile the bearings wear, current draw increases and speed slows.

Well, after a couple of years with the 30 lb thrust model, and some luck at a local casino, I decided to upgrade. A 40 was the original intent but pricing of the 50 was close, and the same went for the 55! Sale pricing by Amazon plus Minn Kota's rebate program until mid year didn't hurt, so I pulled the trigger. Is it near double the speed of the 30? Almost. Someone has commented that the weedless wedge 2 prop has a larger surface area than the standard prop, and that some speed is lost there. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but would appreciate feedback. I do know that my new Intex Mariner 4 moves along nicely with the enhanced prop, and it especially kicks in when you dial it from 4 to 5. The motor seems to be made as well as the 30 and so far I can't find a thing wrong with it. The only surprise was the weight. The 30 is relatively light. As stated in the shipping weight though, this one is about 50 lbs. Add that to the weight of the battery and you have quite a load to begin with! If you're looking for a top speed electric motor for boats in the Intex Mariner 4/Sevylor HF360 class AND intend to keep it in fresh water, this is the one to go for, unless the 50 is prices much lower.

We bought this exact model from Cabela's online, ordered 6-22-12. Used it a couple of hours on 3 different days that summer. Hubby is an exact rule follower. Every word of what's in the instructions, warnings etc, he adheres to step by step. We really liked the motor and it was nice knowing that hubby had a backup in case the old gas outboard failed to start.
Took it out this year and used it a couple of hours the first day. The second day my hubby decided to troll with the gas powered motor he's used for years instead of the electric one. We're trolling along and all of a sudden he sees flames coming from the cable of the electric motor. It wasn't even being used at the time! It was still hooked up to the battery via the Minn Kota Battery Power Center so if we needed/wanted to switch back to the electric motor we could. The boat is just a 14 foot aluminum boat. The fire was 2 inches from the fuel line that goes to the outboard motor! It melted through the cable and melted the heavy duty 2 inch strap that holds the Power Center on the top of the battery. We had bought everything required, with the Minn Kota brand so it would all be compatible, except for the battery itself which we bought the best one Costco had.
We called Cabela's and they said "Sorry, it's been over 60 days, call Minn Kota". I called Minn Kota today and they said they've never heard of that happening before. (My brother-in-law owned a marine shop for years says yes it does happen.) Anyway, the best they can do for me is to send me a postage paid label to send it in to be looked at and maybe repaired if they deem it to be defective and not something we did wrong. I'm not happy. We thought we were buying quality.
