I have recently mounted this motor and would like to make some comments. If you plan to use a motor mounted transducer for your bow fish finder--Forget it!! The shaft of this unit slides up in an enclosed sleeve that makes it impossible to secure the transducer wire, therefore it is always hanging loose and tangleing. If you want to use a bow fishfinder bite the bullet...

I did a lot of research before I bought this trolling motor. I saved $80.00 on shipping and tax by getting it here on Amazon.

Took it out to the lake last weekend for first time since buying it and installing it 2 months ago. I put it on a 17' crestliner "fish n ski" deep v that weighs 2050 lbs. withought gas. I was told by a lot of people to get the 54", but i resisted and did the math and got the 48' shaft. it is the perfect length.

The installation was easy. The motor performed well even with 20 mph head winds. Although i like the old school foot pedals better. I was able to turn the pedal sideways and push up for left and push back for right.

The long cord is a major plus cause it was way cold and i could get behind the windshield, instead of up on the deck in the freezing cold.

Best buy for a trolling motor for $500.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted, May 3, 2009

Perfect on front of my 21 ft Lowe pontoon. Plenty long. Easy to install with hardware provided. Powerful enough for a pontoon. Foot control works great and was not sensitive to me, as another reviewer described. That is a personal matter, but I found it just right.

Takes up little room and I installed it at a bit of an angle so it stores on deck to one side for walking room, then centers when put in the water.

I made my own cord and clamped it so I can pull it up with that. My old one had a cord and this does not. I was used to the cord and find it handy so added that myself.

Good price, arrived on time, undamaged and works as advertised.

I used this trolling motor to move an 18' pontoon boat. It does an excellent job for me. I've used it in high winds, and it performs well. I highly recommend it.

I purchased this trolling motor for my pontoon and it is a great product which does not drain your battery after a long day out on the lake. The trolling motor has a built in battery meter to show you how much of a charge remains on your battery. In addition to such a great buy on Amazon if you go purchase this trolling motor Minn Kota has a promo going where they will give you the free wireless remote which is normally $150 so its a no brainer as you can sit in the back of the boat and control your trolling motor.

This is my third minnkota i had earlier autopilot wireless model, riptide, now this one in 48inch shaft. The good its beautiful black color, great aluminum build quality. How could MotorGuide come close to this motor they cant! I was looking for lowest priced decent motor. There are other types with different mounts but this unit is best. No clumsey wiring to foot control its all electronic baby with electric steering. Everyone says get 24v um why 12volt is simple offers great power to move 17 foot crestliner if i need longer trolling time add two batterys + to + neg to neg. I plan on installing 40amp inline circuit breaker or fuse close to positive side battery. The advantage of electric motors for trolling you can get the speed just right for pop gear worm, walleye fishing pulling bottom bouncers. I have a kicker motor but tell you what this unit gets used its more enviormently friendly must have for nice boat. Most important option on my rig! Amazon is fantastic super quick shipping like 2 days ground LOL. Autopilot feature on other motors is nice but not totally needed you just do more imputing on controls. Mounting read the directions look at sheet supplied. You will need a helper to hold unit where you want it in down position. Under two plastic side plates are where the bolts go. The motor must be far enough out from boat to lower and raise unit. Dont go to far out just enough. Try and center motor but off angle to right is preffered not straight ahead. They do offer a quick release bracket it will raise motor couple inches there nice to have for removing motor for winter but not required. Perfect score motor i see no way of improving its looks or function. Shafts for bow are toss up a super deep v alum boat like starcraft 19 id go 55inch shaft or lund tyee, fisherman. My crestliner sits little lower in water and 48 if fine!

The shaft of this unit slides up in an enclosed sleeve that makes it impossible to secure the transducer wire, therefore it is always hanging loose and tangleing. If you want to use a bow fishfinder bite the bullet and go for the internal mounted transducer model. Also if you are going to cover your boat better get the quick disconnect mount as this motor sticks way out in front of the bow and covers won't fit. The electric turning motor is pretty slow. There is no lighted directional marking on the top of the unit for night fishing. These are the reasons I rated it at a three.

I love this trolling motor, it was easy to install and very easy to operate it. once you point it in the direction you want to go, it stays there all you have to do is hit the power.I had a motorguide but didnt like the stiff cable and it always got in the way to operate or stow it.with the minn kota I dont have that problem

Does what it's supposed to do. A little wax on the shaft and it's up & down with ease. Seems to not use up battery as fast as the 12 year old relic it replaces. Never need more than 1/2 power to troll my 16' boat at walleye speed. The fish will never hear you coming...

I love the motor. I suffered for years with lower thrust motor on my boat. This motor is a great upgrade. It was easy to install. The foot pedal takes a little getting used to, but it is much better than cable steering. Im not sure about the complaints on the stow and deploy operation. I followed the manufacturers advice and applied armor all to the shaft and it works very well. My brother-in-law purchased the same motor for his boat once he saw how well it worked on my boat.
