I purchased this to replace a foot control. I found the foot control (2000 model) too difficult to manipulate so I opted for this model. I did my research and wanted to keep the price down and did not want to spend a fortune. I read several reviews that I could find and purchased it from Amazon who had the best price. Here is what I thought: The mounting was very easy and sturdy. The deployment method is simple and much easier than the older versions. This has the pull cord and the weight and design from the stowed position into the water was very smooth. It locks solid and I had no problems at all. The power which is rated for 45 lbs was plenty. I have a 14 foot v-hull with the flat bottom (inside) and forward deck. I did purchase the extension handle which for most applications is going to be needed. That being said I was pleased up until this point. The plastic handle handle (not the extension handle) has some inherent flaws. One is it is plastic. After the first day of use the handle inaccurately showed what speed it was on so I basically had to use the vibration from the handle/boat movement to tell when I had actually had clicked it off. I can't say with certainty if it was from tightening the extension handle too much (which is a minnkota brand) or due to a cheap plastic design. On speed five I could not engage it unless I physically forced the handle beyond what appeared to be position five. Once I got used to this flaw it worked well. I used it more than my outboard and I usually used speeds one thru four anyway so the major issue with five wasn't going to be used. For the most part minor adjustments in turning were fine, power was good. As far as returning it because of the handle to Minnkota/The juice is not worth the squeeze based on other reviews I have read. I find it amazing how sturdya nd well built everything is until ou get up to the electrically and plastic world of the hand control area.....needs better structural integrity there!

I have a 14ft semi-V and this motor pushes it around smartly. I cant seem to get used to the new foot steer motors so I went with this. Very happy so far. Plenty of power and when used with the bigfoot momentary switch it is a perfect setup. I would have given it a 5star but there is just a bit of slop in the mount and when I hit the switch there is some tourqe on the mount that makes noise. That aside, Nice purchase. I would buy it again.

My husband decided to buy direct instead of the store, saved
a lot of money. We already have a smaller trolling motor (minnKota)
and were very happy with that one. Came on time, packed great,
very satisfied.

Holes for connections to battery were way to small. Had to replace. Lousy instructions on installing. Low model. You get what you pay for.

Used it today on my 17 ft carolina skiff. It performed very well. I don't have a cc or anything but it did well in all the conditions I was faced with. there is a major jump from setting 1 - 4 to 5. the 5th is where all the power kicks in. I used it for a good 6 hours on a single deep cycle battery and it was still going. Does the hand feel cheap? Maybe a little "its made of plastic" but what do you expect for 239 bucks. If this trolling motor last a year or more it's worth the investment. I highly suggest getting the quick disconnect mount as this thing takes up a lot of real-estate on your boat and I like being able to take it off so it doesn't get stolen. I must say I prefer the hand controls over everything else. It just works and less that can go wrong. I would without a doubt recommend this to a friend.

The installation of the trolling motor was straight forward. I had the bow mount installed in four hours without any problems. I took it fishing the next morning. The speed control is very sticky, will not shift cleanly between gears, and will not turn off easily. It will only reliably run up to speed number four. When I selected high speed with the tiller the motor dropped to second or third gear. This is primarily happening when the hand control is turned to 45 degrees or the next setting down, but has happened on all positions. If you put the control in the horizontal position it will ususally go up to high speed without problems. Once the motor is running in high speed, you can pull the tiller to the 45 degree position and it runs like normal until you stop. The same problem happens 80 percent of the time.

The intermittent problem with the speed control is not something I expect from Minn Kota. I called support on the next morning and they told me to take it to the factory authorized dealer for repairs. I am going to take it for service this week to see if it can be resolved.

Other operation of the motor was good. It has plenty of power on high and it will grind along in low speed to keep me moving slowly so I have not experienced any negatives on the motor itself. If I can this issue resolved, I think I'll be satisfied long term, but this is not something I expect to experience from Minn Kota.

I have this trolling motor on my 14' jon boat that I have fixed up and decked out to bass fish in. It has plenty of thrust and is quiet. I haven't had a problem with the gears switching or the handle.

I mounted this on the bow of my Boston Harbor Sport 130. The boat was already wired for a trolling motor. I just had to cut a spacer from a piece of 3/8 inch plastic cutting board and use it to raise the motor mount enough to clear the raised edge of the bow. The instructions advised using two persons for installation, but after removing the motor from the mount, I was able to do the installation by myself easily enough.

I've used it once so far and it worked fine. I have a pedestal seat on the bow and a foot switch for powering the motor on and off, so I set the speed and direction by hand and activate the motor as needed. I changed out the main battery with a 115 AH deep cycle to run everything. I was surprised to find my battery fully charged after an afternoon of fishing. I should have trolled a lot more :)
