I purchased MinnKota Edge 70 Bowmount trolling motor after talking with fishing buddies and doing my own research online. I've used it for about a year now and considering the price I paid, I'm just a little let down. The unit is very powerful and pulls my 18' Triton around with ease. I can even ease forward in 30 mph winds. However, I have had some issues with the unit. The pull cord broke a few months after the purchase. I replaced the cord with some marine rated nylon rope I found at a local sports store and it's working fine now, but I felt the original cord should have lasted a lot longer. Another problem that I have is with the swivel part of the motor. It started to squeak and grind and I ended up having to spray huge amounts of oil and silicon spray to keep the unit operable. My guess is that the seal on the shaft is inadequate. The unit is working, but after a few hours of squeaking, my nerve are shot. Even though it is powerful and has an "unbreakable" shaft, I would NOT purchase this unit again.

First time Amazon shipped me the item, the box looked like it had been through WWIII. After installing the unit, I noticed the mount was cracked, had to pack it up and ship it back. The next one they overnighted, again the box had multiple holes I could shove my fist through. Installed the motor, it worked for about 5 minutes and then quit. I had to uninstall again. The MinnKota repair shop had it for a week and a half. I got it back with a note saying "has been abused." Almost 3 weeks after the initial order, I'm still not fishing.

Sure it's a good motor, and MinnKota has been great. But the transaction with Amazon/FedEx/UPS has been not so great.
