Product Description

Product Description

Our Riptide engine mount saltwater motors can turn your recreational runabout into a bona fide fishing machine without adding a motor to your deck. You get great electric motor performance when it's time to stow the ski's and wakeboard and pull out the rods and reels. The speed is controlled by an 18' corded remote that can be handheld or mounted in your boat. It offers infinitely variable speed in forward and reverse. The motor can be steered using your boat's steering wheel or outboard tiller. This unit runs on 24 volts

If fish had eyebrows, they'd be raised looking at this Minn Kota Saltwater Engine Mounted (EM) motor, which delivers the corrosion-resistant power of the Minn Kota Riptide without cluttering your deck with a traditional mount. The EM motor mounts directly on the cavitation plate of your outboard or I/O unit, with no stowing or deploying required. Because the motor stays out of sight, it won't interfere with your I/O motor and simultaneously keeps your deck clutter-free--a convenient feature for smallish boats. The Saltwater EM is also corrosion resistant thanks to its premium-grade marine alloys and aluminum upper arms. The motor's metals undergo a rigid multi-step cleaning process before being anodized or coated with a special zinc dichromate armor plating. All components are then finished with a durable 5 ml TGIC polyester, powder-coated paint. When all is said and done, the motor offers unequaled corrosion protection no matter where you like to fish.

The motor includes a Weedless Wedge 2 prop that brushes weeds aside while preserving battery power.
Fishing motors by definition must be quiet, and nothing runs cooler or quieter than a Minn Kota. The motor features extra-large windings and commutators that dissipate heat, resulting in a cooler operation, extended battery power, and a longer motor life. The motor's unique bearing system, meanwhile, reduces friction to cut fish-spooking noise, so they won't hear you coming as you cruise into a channel. And the Saltwater EM comes standard with Minn Kota's Digital Maximizer technology, which helps the battery run up to five times longer on a single charge. Other features include an 18-foot corded remote speed control that lets you adjust your speed in both forward and reverse; sealed electronics housed in a fully waterproof control module mounted below the deck of the boat; a Weedless Wedge 2 prop that pushes weeds away without draining the battery power; and a two-year warranty.

Awesome product! I have a Proline 240SS center console and I have no isues with power and trim. My bow is too high for a bow mount electric motor. I have 2 MinnKota chargers, one for shore power and one for the alternator to charge while running, so I am never out of juice. When I have my boat at full power and trimmed out(electric trim), the EM160 motors are completely out of the water and I still get 52 MPH (GPS, not speedometer, more accurate). I have a 24V system for the EM160 and 2 12v systems for everything else. I mounted my dedicated EM160 batteries in the hold in front of my console so I needed to run the wires longer than the supplied wires. Do NOT splice the wires! Use all new wire AND the correct guage of wire for optimum power transfer, the longer the run, the thicker the guage of wire you will need. I also used batteries that are deep cycle BCI group 30 and 110 Amp hours, with this rig I have never been out of power for walleye trolling. The nice thing is I can make almost 5 MPH in a 15 knot head wind. I normally run between 1.5 and 2.5 mph for walleye and 3 mph for steelhead. I tried using this motor in the river like a bass boat but even at the lowest speed it is too fast to leave on while casting. Love the long cable controller for this scenario. If you have a large boat, I highly reccomend this product. I have had mine for 1 full season and it was worth every penny.

A lot bigger and heavier than expected -even on my 225 hp motor. Controller, while supposedly waterproof according to MK tech rep, seems cheap hence 4 stars. Works great, otherwise. Had to extend motor wires by almost 15 feet due to curved cable run to where batteries were installed. Motor " rated" for larger boats. MK should have known that the cables would likely be too short...

Item was delivered on time. Installation was very easy. All parts bolt on or plug in. Stirring is some what harder at low speed with the extra weight. Unit will use up battery very quickly unless you keep it slow and not get power up to high. It works like I had hoped.

It was not real easy to install but I did it over two days with ordinary tools from the garage. The instructions should be better for this price. Make sure you have a good source of 24vdc BEFORE you buy it. I use two 12vdc deep cycle marine batteries hooked in series but the amps pulled by this motor are too much for small batteries and they only last a little while under moderate use. I have to recharge after every use. Once installed, I took it for a spin and it worked great. However, even though I installed it to the proper height, it is not out of the water at 5000 rpm (Max for me) unless I tilt the engine up a little too far. I put it on a 22' Trophy with a 150HP outboard.
