This review applies to all three of the Minnesota Beatle Project CDs. As the title of this review states; actually, they're pretty good.

I'm a long-time Beatles fan and have the typical collection of albums, books, etc. I confess I approached these CDs with healthy skepticism, but also curiosity.

Having listened to all three CDs, I think what you'll find are some fun covers, some not so good covers and some really great covers. It's all a matter of your personal taste. I can't say I liked every song on each CD. But I can also say that there are some songs that are really great, either because of their fresh but faithful cover of the original or because they cover the original with an entirely new treatment that's really fun. It was very interesting to hear how younger bands decided to interpret Beatles songs.

I ended up compiling the ones I liked from each CD into a "best of" playlist and I really enjoy it. Just personally, I'd recommend having a listen to the "Minnesota" versions of "Real Love," "And Your Bird Can Sing," and "Golden Slumbers." And if you're a fan of bluegrass, have a listen to the "Minnesota" version of "I've Just Seen A Face."

Okay, you may listen to those and think "This stinks." But you also might listen to those or other songs on the CDs and say "Hey, this is pretty good." As I said, it's all a matter of your personal taste. I'm pretty hard core about the originals being the definitive versions. But I freely admit that having listened to the cover versions on these CDs there are a number of them that I really enjoy.

Give them a try. Hopefully you'll enjoy them too!
