5.0 out of 5 stars Minnesota Strip--an educational reference for prostition rings, April 5, 2006

This review is from: Minnesota Strip (Paperback)
Minnesota Strip is about young girls who have lived in Minnesota and were kidnaped or coxed into entering the world of prostition. This book does a great job at creating a mental image of what these young girls have gone through and what they have become. The Minnesota Strip referes to a block in New York where all the prostitutes on this "strip" have originated from Minnesota. I read one of the reviews that was written prior to mine and I just wanted to clarify what the book was really about because apperently the individual who had writen this other review didn't truely understand the lituature that he was reading. Highly reccomended for all to read.

2.0 out of 5 stars You won't find this on my "Regional Book" shelf, May 21, 2001

This review is from: Minnesota Strip (Paperback)
Here's what the jacket says: "Dan Fortune, the one-armed private detective of the Edgar Allan Poe Award-winning Michael Collins novels ... returns with his most provocative, brilliantly realized adventure to date." Well, I don't know about that. This was the first (and it will be the last) Dan Fortune novel I've read. I don't know how Dan lost his arm - unlike many series, remedial background information is not provided. The current adventure involves progeny of the VietNam Conflict.

I ordered this book because I thought it might be about Minnesota. Who knew that the Minnesota Strip is in New York City?! And probably not a destination for most tourists. "Sudden death was as ordinary on the Minnesota Strip as whisky and heroin and pimps' Cadillacs." It's a grim place and a grim book.

Does anyone out there know how this area of NYC got its name?
