Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 1-3-Those ever-popular bovines are back in another mixed-up adventure. It's Valentine's Day, and Moo's penchant for composing rhymes inspires her to create "love poems for the needy!" So she and Minnie become cupids to go. Of course the cows just happen to have the right outfits packed away in the barn. Clad in tights, tutus, and wings, and armed with bows and arrows and Moo's poems, they are off to bring love to the barnyard. Their suction-cup arrows do no damage, but the poems do not always end up in the correct hands, claws, or hooves. When Farmer John determines that it is the cows sending the Valentine poetry, his wife leads him away for some iced tea saying, "Oh, John,- Cows don't write poems." As with Minnie and Moo's other escapades, these animals are oblivious to the havoc they wreak. Chock-full of humorous verses and silly illustrations, this title is sure to be a hit with newly independent readers.

From Booklist

PreS-Gr. 2. This I Can Read book reintroduces those two silly cows, Minnie and Moo, this time on a Valentine's Day mission to spread love and cheer. Naturally, things don't go quite as planned. After writing a Valentine's Day poem for Minnie, Moo decides that she would like to write love poems for everyone in the barnyard. Soon, the cows are using a bow and arrow and shooting notes everywhere, some suitable, some not. When the farmer's wife gets a poem meant for the turkey ("I love the way you wobble when you waddle . . . ") and her husband gets one for the "old goat," hard feelings briefly ensue. The pictures aren't as well executed here as they were in previous books, and though this has some very funny moments, it's a little convoluted in spots, especially for new readers. But Minnie and Moo remain a jaunty duo that still elicits giggles at a glance. Ilene Cooper

5.0 out of 5 stars Moo's Valentine, January 27, 2012
This review is from: Minnie and Moo: Will You Be My Valentine? (I Can Read Book 3) (Paperback)
The book is a diaphanous story; it uses poems that I think your kids will enjoy. In addition, the author has fun with Valentine's Day using cows. More importantly, I think that this is a good book to read to children for Valentine's Day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious mixed up Valentines, February 8, 2011
This review is from: Minnie and Moo: Will You Be My Valentine? (I Can Read Book 3) (Paperback)
Minnie and Moo create a host of Valentines poems and then dress in tights, tutus, and shoot the poems at farm animals and the farmer and his wife with hilarious results.

Here's an example: "Dearest Buffalo Lips, Your ultra-wide hips are as big as six ships. So what can I say, but 'anchors away!' Have a wonderful Valentine's day." Minnie and Moo shot this at two passing Holstein cows. It hit one. When she read it, she said, "It's for you."

This is the kind of book my children never tire of reading. If you are looking for a good choice for Valentine's reading, I recommend this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Can Resist Love Poems Written by Cows?, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Minnie and Moo: Will You Be My Valentine? (I Can Read Book 3) (Paperback)
This is my favorite Minnie and Moo book... and I've read them all!

Minnie and Moo; two cows on the farmer's farm who talk, eat cream puffs, sit in the hot tub and ponder life before jumping into it with all 8 hooves, cannot resist spreading Valentine cheer throughout the farm. Their efforts to play cupid to the farm animals, and the farmer and his wife, leave you laughing out loud! Rhyming poems written by Minnie and Moo are the centerpiece for this Denys Cazet original. Wonderful illustrations keep you laughing too.

A book that both kids and their parents will enjoy, Minnie and Moo: Will You Be My Valentine? is a book that you will find you'll read over and over again, long after your child is past level 3 books and too old for funny cow stories.
