4.0 out of 5 stars Minolta Dimage 2300 a Keeper, August 30, 2000

This review is from: Minolta Dimage 2300 2.3MP Digital Camera Kit (Electronics)
The Minolta Dimage 2300 finally appeared, and at a lower price than expected. It includes rechargeable batteries and recharger, which is a nice touch. The case and cables make a complete digital camera package with no extras needed. It easily fits in pants pocket or briefcase. The primary selection controls are convenient on a single knob - more so than Olympus D460; its other controls are reasonably easy to learn too. The manual is excellent. The Dimage 2300 has twice the pixels (2 Megapixels) at about the same price as the D460. Unfortunately Minolta put no optical zoom on this camera, so you lose pixels when you use the electronic zoom; compare with D460, in which you get optical plus electronic zoom for total of 6x, more than 2300 offers. The Minolta offers a wide range of image sizes and qualities (4) to fit your needs, but if you want the best quality, the 8 Mb CompactFlash only holds one; with other qualities it holds 9, 24, or 47 full size pictures. The performance of the Dimage 2300 has been very good, and the built in USB to PC or Mac using the Adobe PhotoShop provided make this a keeper, being moderately priced for a good quality product. If you want supoer high quality professional ditigal cameras or ones using a wide range of interchangeable lenses, looks elsewhere and take a fat wallet.

I've had the Dimage 2300 a few months now and up until the present moment it's been a solid camera. Pretty decent image quality and good performance, considering the price.

All of a sudden it started bugging out. Specifically, it would blink the low battery signal after just having bought batteries. I'd try putting the camera in PC mode so I could upload all the pictures to my PC and I'd get an error on my computer saying that "The camera could not be located properly." Not only that but the camera would blink low battery again. Very frustrating; at this point I'm thinking I just threw 400 bucks out the window.

I don't know if the internal processor is cheaply designed or what, but I can say that there certainly is a reason for this camera being as cheap a price as it is. Take heed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Minolta Poor Quality, January 2, 2001
This review is from: Minolta Dimage 2300 2.3MP Digital Camera Kit (Electronics)
I purchased this product and right from the start I had problems with it. It would not download to my computer properly. It would only download 6-7 pictures one time then only 3-4 another, all the time not allowing me to complete the download. I called Minolta tech support and the tech I spoke to knew less then I did. I returned the camera to where I purchased it and was given another one. Right out of the box it did the exact same thing. Again I called Minolta and was told to send the camera to New Jersey. Two NEW camera's and I have to send them to Jersey, come on guys at Minolta. What happened to the name recognition and quality of your products. I will never purchase another Minolta product. I have Canon camera's and have NO PROBLEMS. And what about the tech support, NONE (no help at all). Spend your money on another product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never had a problem, October 23, 2001

I enjoy this camera. And mine works with Windows Millenium just fine. I got the 64MB memory card and I have NEVER filled it up, let alone found out how many it holds. I always have 99+ displayed. It takes very nice pictures, and has nice features. The only negative is that it only zooms to 1.4 x and 2.0x and the quality then gets poor. But everything else is great.

The Minolta Dimage 2300 is not compatable with Windows 2000 Millenium Edition. If you purchase a new computer or update your Windows 98 you cannot upgrade the camera software. It just isnt available!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too hard to use this camera and software!, January 26, 2001

Run, don't walk away from Minolta digital cameras. I own the 2300 and it is horrible. The software does not work well and the camera is way too hard to operate for a simple snapshot camera. There is simply no excuse for such a poor job.

To top it off, the photo quality is very poor for a 2 million pixel camera. This thing is Junk!

Feel free to email me if you have a question. Bryan_Weber@madscape.com

I have read all the reviews people have put on here about the Dimage 2300 and I think if the people actually read the manual they might not have dark pictures since the camera can be adjusted to lighten the pictures up to 4 times normal this is intentional so that when in outside sunny weather your pics dont turn out to bright. I love the pictures that the camera takes but you need to pay attention to the operators manual if you want good pictures, all in all the camera is great and takes perfect pictures if the operator would take a little time to get to know the camera. I have recomended it to several friends and neighbors and every one of them are novice computer users and take great pictures and they also think its the greatest quality and easyiest to use camera. I WOULD RECOMEND ANYONE TO BUY THIS CAMERA IF YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO READ THE BOOK

I've read a lot of reviews about this particular product and ive read that many people have problems transfering pictures into their computer. Although i found that aspect to be quite simple the real weakness of this camera is the flash. This camera is virtually useless at night. Unless the place is well lit at night you can forget about taking pictures. During the day it takes pictures pretty well. The macto feature of this camera is also pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful camera, April 15, 2001

Received the camera from UBid yesterday, read the manual last night and was out shooting Easter pictures with ours and neighbor's kids today. All I can say is that what excellent pictures it took. To minimize the picture size, around 100 KB, the camera was set at half size (800 x 600) and standard image mode. The camera was very easy to use, similar to my old Minolta X700 without the auto-focus.

Since it's my first digital camera, so I have no other camera to compare it to. But I am still very impressed with it, especially when I only paid... for it.
