5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
I spend numerous hours online reading the specs. of every brand of camera. I decided to purchase the Minolta 150 Zoom. This camera is by far, the best I have owned. And believe me, I've had them all. It is lightweight and takes beautiful pictures on every setting. Inside, outside, low light, far away, and in the dark. I took pictures of my Grandchildren outside at night...

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't believe only 5 Zoom Stops
I was all set to buy this camera but one thing mentioned in the reviews confused me. Only 5 zoom stops? How can that be with a 150 mm zoom capability? Sure enough, I test drove it and the lens only zooms to 5 distinct zoom stops. You can't just zoom the lens as desired and stop it wherever you want (i.e. when you take your finger off the zoom, the lens stops where you...

It is lightweight and takes beautiful pictures on every setting. Inside, outside, low light, far away, and in the dark. I took pictures of my Grandchildren outside at night and the clarity was spectacular. If people would take time and read the instructions, every picture would turn out perfect. I have been a camera buff for 35 years and I am extemely happy with this Minolta.

Sure enough, I test drove it and the lens only zooms to 5 distinct zoom stops. You can't just zoom the lens as desired and stop it wherever you want (i.e. when you take your finger off the zoom, the lens stops where you want it to). Instead the lens adjusts backwards to the nearest pre-set stop (one of 5 available). I've never seen a zoom camera with such an incredibly bone-headed feature. Buy some other zoom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Was I ever impressed!, August 20, 2000
This review is from: Minolta Freedom Zoom 150 Date 35mm Camera (Electronics)
I have searched for months on the camera that does it all with compact quality. Well, I found it. I have read remarks on this camera about bad performance, this is not true! This camera is outstanding! I believe they have not read thoroughly the manual to learn how to use it properly. My friends and I have all bought 3 of them. We are going on a cruise in October and the features it has is wonderful. We have all taken pix with our camera's and got great ones. And we all studied the manual together. The seude case, remote control and panoroma persueded me to try it. I also called Minolta to find out the manufacture date of February 2000... well worth [the cost]... I believe you get what you pay for.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was expecting better!, January 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Minolta Freedom Zoom 150 Date 35mm Camera (Electronics)
I have a 10 year old Minolta Freedom 90 and love my camera. I decided to get a newer model to have the date function. I went with Minolta because of the great performance that I have had with my current camera. I was disappointed.

I found the stops set on the zoom didn't allow me the freedom to capture exactly what I wanted in the picture without me actually having to move closer or farther away to fine tune the shot.

I also found that if I took pictures with some people standing in front of others in a group shot, those in front were overexposed. The coloring of my photos just wasn't as sharp as I had expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars great camera!, November 5, 2000

This camera is without a doubt one of the best ones I've owned. I originally purchased it to replace my 4 year old Minolta Freedom Zoom 90EX that had been dropped. I wanted another Minolta camera because I was impressed with the clarity and lighting of my old camera. I bought the 150 version mainly for its compact size. After snapping two rolls with it, I must say that it's surpassed my already high expectations of Minolta cameras. The pictures came out very sharp and clear with brilliant colors. The suede case it came with was a very nice addition, as was the remote control and self timer. I especially like the sleek silver look and small size. I haven't had any problems with it yet, and would highly recommend it to anyone else.

3.0 out of 5 stars Should I be disappointed??? : (, December 17, 2000

This review is from: Minolta Freedom Zoom 150 Date 35mm Camera (Electronics)
I bought this set thinking that its features should be comparable to the Olympus Stylus Zoom 140 QD CG Camera or Canon Sure Shot Classic 120 Caption Kit. I was very impressed at the size and the kit, but I was surprised at its zoom feature. There are only 5 zoom steps!! Eventhough the zoom range is wide, 37.5 to 150, what good it does when the camera doesn't stop zooming where you want it to stop?!!?? Also, when zooming, the lens will try to adjust itself until it reaches one of the zooming steps. I think this is also a waste of the battery.

I found out later that the Canon has at least 15 zooming steops, which is more than enought (plus it's cheaper.) and the Olympus also has more than 5 zooming steps. I should have made sure that I test the products before I buy them on the web.

I haven't taken any picture yet.. Once I do, I'll let you know.. : )

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy operation, the remote feature proved very valuable., January 6, 2002

This review is from: Minolta Freedom Zoom 150 Date 35mm Camera (Electronics)
I bought the Minolta Freedom Zoom 150 kit approximately 5 months ago. I chose the camera based upon the high power zoom, the fact that it comes with a small, belt-attachable case, and the infrared remote.
I have used the camera in all possible lighting situations with excellent picture quality. The first place that I used the camera was at the beach, and I was very pleased with the quality of the photos. I have also used the camera at various indoor functions and the remote is a must have. After trying all flash features, I believe that the autoflash with red eye reduction proves to be the setting I use the most. This mode will allow for excellent flash exposure in most every setting. This mode uses two short flashes to constrict the pupil and a third longer flash that is synonymous with the shutter opening.
The remote is easy to use and I found that I use the remote much more than I originally anticipated. I usually just sit the camera on a stationary object and stand in the picture with my wife while using the remote. I have also found that when I ask someone else to take the picture that instead of going through how to operate the camera, I just have them aim it and I use the remote to open the shutter.
The camera is built on a 5 f-stop system. Others have complained of this, but I find this makes for easier focusing. There is no dioptric correction, but if you have an astigmatic correction, you may find that you do not benefit from this type of feature anyway. To me it seems easier to leave needed spectacle correction on while taking photos anyway.
The remote feature is why I chose this camera over the Olympus 140 or 170. If the remote is not of use to you, and there is concern with the 5 f-stop positions, the better choice may be the Olympus. But I went with the Minolta and have been pleased with my purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor flash made a difference, October 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Minolta Freedom Zoom 150 Date 35mm Camera (Electronics)
I did all of my homework before I bought this camera, including checking out Consumer Reports, reading Amazon's reviews and talking to people who own the camera.

I actually bought it to use at my best friend's wedding. The small amount of pictures I took outside were great. But the ones inside were so dark, I was so sad to see them. Although the zoom is impressive, the flash isn't. All of the pictures of my new friend and her groom were very dark and fuzzy.

It also seemed like the subjects in the photo were always in the right lower corner of the picture. So possibly the accuracy rate isn't that good.

Needless to say, I returned the camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent zoom feature, cool remote control too, October 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Minolta Freedom Zoom 150 Date 35mm Camera (Electronics)
This camera has an awesome zoom capability. Works great as a pair of binoculars too. Some pictures will come out a little blurry if you zoom all the way (make sure you read the owner's manual to find out some tricks to prevent that!). The remote control feature lets you take group pictures without having to set the time, run to the group and quickly pose. Just set the camera on a table (I use a tripod), get your group together and click on the remote when you're ready to take the picture. Love my camera!
