I began looking for a camera after problems with my last point and shoot and wanted to upgrade to something more powerful. Searching on the internet allowed me to find many reviews and potential replacements, and Amazon offerered prices about 30% less than my local vendors - with a Minolta lens instead of an off-brand. My wife an I took about 10 rolls within the first few weeks - everything from portraits of our son, to sunsets (panoramic), to action shots, to shots with different depths of focus. The camera performed extremely well, is light weight, and seems to help with any "shaking" when taking pictures. The lens is great for shots between 3 to 50 feet, but not much can be focused on beyond that. I am looking forward to getting a 210 or 300mm zoom lens. Overall we have been very happy with the features and the feel of the camera, and I highly recommend it.

Wish I'd Had This Sooner,

One of the best things about my chosen field is getting to work in a variety of wonderful locations. I hadn't even thought of buying a new camera until my old 35mm SLR developed a fatal shutter problem, but I found myself in upstate Washington in the Fall with NO camera. I reviewed and reviewed on the internet and got more confused by the minute. Then I stumbled upon a very knowledgeable camera store owner and discovered the Minolta STsi Panorama Date. It's perfect for the traveller because it's very lightweight. It's perfect for the not-so-novice-yet-not- professional photographer because it gives you great options and easy instructions. Although I probably could have gotten a better price by searching ads or waiting for delivery, I feel that the $20-30 more I paid was well worth the knowledgeability of the storeowner who recommended this camera. I rate 4 out of 5 because I'm sure if I had wanted a more expensive camera I could have had more options, but for the money, I'm VERY satisfied.

I received an STsi as a gift after I returned my Rebel 2000. The STsi handled nicer and offered more accurate exposure. The cameras ability to detemine what I was shooting impressed me. The STsi offers eay to use accurate picture taking. It was a great gift and I highly recommend it

A few comments,

This camera is very similar in features to the Canon EOS Rebel 2000, in about the same price range, but I was still impressed enough with it to make a few comments. One thing this camera offers that the Canon doesn't is predictive autofocus. This can be quite useful when doing action shots. It also offers a panorama mode, which the Canon doesn't seem to offer. I've enjoyed using this mode quite a bit on my little Fuji Tiara APS camera. Both cameras have similar F ratios for the lens and both have 1/2000th of a sec top shutter speeds. One thing the Canon offers that is nice is the 7 customizable autofocus points, which some advanced users might find useful. One last thing to be aware of is that the Minolta camera will usually be offered with a 3rd party lens. If you want a Minolta lens you'll need to pay quite a bit more for it. However, the Canon comes with a Canon lens but doesn't cost any more. All in all, this is a pretty feature-packed camera at an attractive price, which should serve the needs of the vast majority of photo buffs.

The Minolta Maxxum STsi camera is the best investment my family has made in a long time. The Minolta Maxxum STsi comes fully equiped from when you purchace it, therefore not having to spend extra money on equipment for your camera. The quality of the pictures that the camera takes are nothing but supurb. I am not an overly experienced photographer, although i have found this a very simple yet very professional camera extreemly easy to use. I recommend this for anyone who is thinking of buying a new camera.

This camera gives you choice of operating in two modes, manual and automatic. This is one of the best slr camera for people who likes to take photographs. If you compare it against Canon Rebel200 you will find it at a better price and with almost same features.

Great Camera!,

This camera is great! It is so easy to use! I upgraded from a point-and-shoot APS camera to this Minolta Maxxum STsi because the APS camera stopped working after only 2 years. I was looking for something that would last longer and is more powerful than a point-and-shoot camera, and I've found it! I was getting tired of the blurry photos and the bad picture quality of my old camera. My mother owns a 15-year-old Nikon SLR camera and it takes pictures 10 times clearer than my APS camera. My Minolta Maxxum now takes pictures 10 times better than her camera. Now she is borrowing mine! I highly recommend this camera.

Can't put the camera down!,

This review is from: Minolta Maxxum STsi Panorama Date 35mm SLR Camera Kit with 35-80mm Lens (Electronics)
This camera is a tremendous value for both the aspiring and expert photographer. It is packed with features such as fully automatic mode (can be switched back from manual mode at a touch of a button) to catch those unexpected picture moments and aperture and shutter priority modes. The multiple subject program modes (portrait, night, close up, landscape etc) make professional quality pictures possible at a touch of a button. Another great feature that this camera offers is the ability to take panoramic pictures at a touch of a button so you can get those long scenic shots with no problem. No need for the expensive Advantix systems. This camera is hard to put down because it is designed with an amatuer in mind and very easy to understand manual makes operating the camera a pleasure. It is lightweight but yet substantial enough to prevent shaking while holding the camera. I have gone through 5 rolls in 2 days and the quality of the prints are superb especially when using the potrait mode. Images are clear and precise in automatic mode. The lens is sufficient but if you can afford the telephoto lens, go for it. The balance between price and features makes the STsi a must have for anyone looking for a new camera SLR or point and shoot.

Fantastic,

I recently purchased the Minolta Maxxum STsi and am pleased to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed using it. It's my first "real camera" and I find it easy to use and fun as well. The pictures come out wonderful, and there are so many options and features you can choose from for every single picture. The only slight drawback is that it's a little large in size, and may be bulky to carry around. But for a beginner, such as myself, this camera is a fantastic choice.

The other reviews pretty much match my sentiments; I have no problems using the camera or with the resulting photos. I particularly like the panoramic mode combined with a wide angle lens I bought. I was just a bit disappointed at the 99% plastic construction. You won't want to set this down next to someone's brushed aluminum Nikon. Don't buy this camera if appearance is everything.
