Very interesting book, and should be read by parents and young people with professional sports dreams. It shows the odds and the realities - joys and disappointments in attempts to make the dream come true. It should open eyes of young people - grade school through high school (stars at their level) and even college athletes, as to what it takes, and help make the reasonable choices in their lives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Minor League Mom, May 5, 2009
This review is from: Minor League Mom: A Mother's Journey Through the Red Sox Farm Teams (Paperback)
Pam Carey has written an openly honest and moving account of her family's voyage through the minor leagues. For one who is not a baseball fan, I was amazed at how caught up I became in the blow by blow drama of two boys and their parents as they pursued the fulfillment of their dreams. The author builds a remarkable amount of tension that the reader shares with the main characters as they fight to survive the jungle of minor league ball. This has to be a great read for anyone connected to the sport, the Red Sox or a similar experience.

PUBLISHER'S REVIEW: BOSTON BASEBALL MAGAZINE
"OK, so I've read a lot of baseball books. That makes it all the more special when I read one that's a little different than anything I've read before. Minor League Mom, by the mother of former Red Sox farmhands Tim and Todd Carey, is one of those books...
"Minor League Mom is more than just a series of diatribes against the Sox' minor league (mis)management. It's the story of two young men working to reach the big leagues, suffering ups and downs both on and off the field, never quite knowing what tomorrow holds. At the same time, they're struggling with the suspicion that it's not going to happen for them, and that life is passing them by as they sweat out another double session on a back field in Florida. It's also the story of two devoted parents working through the self-same ambitions and suspicions." Michael Rutstein
