Thought provoking!,
This review is from: The Minor Protection Act (Paperback)
This is a great story. Incredibly thought provoking. The characters became so real to me I felt I knew them. The ending is a surprise. It made me realize the power of religion and politics in our country and what could happen.

Fiction or Reality?,
By Boise Teacher (Boise, Idaho) - See all my reviews

Readers will have to decide or themselves. Fiction that is so close to reality, that it is utterly frightening. Historical fiction written about our future... Read, watch and pray.

I couldn't put this book down! It held my interest to the end. It was a fascinating story involving aspects of politics, freedom of religion, and the future of our country that truly challenged my thinking, and I would highly recommend it to others!

This book is riveting!,

I finished it late the second night, knowing sleep would elude me until the outcome was realized. The plot is all too plausible and the characters very real and personable, causing the reader to form attachments to some that, if broken, COULD cause pain! Right from the get-go one of today's prevalent social issues is thrust at you in such a way that it demands (and receives) an emotional response from the reader. And though emotion wells rapidly and may generate a desire to scream, just read faster. Nearing the end I still could not fathom how good could triumph over evil, but the author ingeniously resolves the various sub-plots to a more than gratifying conclusion, assuaging anger AND vindicating what is good and right. Extremely well written - very thought provoking - highly entertaining!

Could this really happen?,
By
This review is from: The Minor Protection Act (Paperback)
I was both captivated and disturbed by the plot of this book, wondering could this really happen in the United States of America? We are a Christian Nation - right? The author kept me turing the pages to the very end - she weaves real life and current events into the story in a very fascinating way. I could not put it down. This book is one of the best novels I have read and I highly recommend it. Every couple in America should be preparing their families with the truth and possibilities presented in this book. It will challenge your thinking and cause you to be more aware!

Very believable - full of suspense!,

Although The Minor Protection Act was written as a fiction novel and set in a future presidency, it could be something that might happen in our lifetime, given the blows Christianity has taken in the past. Jack argued a case in court that he thought dealt with matters that were tearing the country apart, causing violence and the rise of teen suicide, and teens to be violent toward themselves and others. The case was won, putting a young man in prison for his part supposedly in the `suicide' of a young teenager.
With this win, Jack was summoned to see President Farmer, who, from my observation, had a problem with Christians raising their children to fear God. He felt that parents should be held accountable for their actions. So, with this, The Minor Protection Act was passed, but Jack soon came to realize the President did not have in mind what he had, when he agreed to it. When children began to be taken from good families, people began to worry. One couple took it into their hands to do what they could to get Christian families with children out of the country before their families met the fate of being separated for years. They knew these children, especially the younger ones, would be indoctrinated with views against religion and God, in general. In other words, the government was saying these parents were raising terrorists, simply because they raised their children to obey the Word of God. So, if they shared it with other teens, then they were considered terrorists. As the story continues, things begin to unravel, as Jack and others set out to prove the President had an agenda in passing this act. People begin to get fired, a death ensues because of lies, and the President's future is in shambles, as is the future of The Minor Protection Act.

Enjoyable and Disturbing,
By T.W. (Africa) - See all my reviews

Entertaining and engaging, Ms. Cowles novel is an enjoyable and disturbing read. This political thriller will have you wonder, what if? The America of The Minor Protection Act doesn't seem too far removed from the America we live in today. Portraying both ends of the spectrum in the politically correct debate, Ms. Cowles weaves a web of unreconciled pain, abuse of public fear and deceit that will keep you reading long into the wee hours of the night. Powered by noble and ignoble passions the quest for a secure America could be more dangerous than you think!

The Minor Protection Act,
This review is from: The Minor Protection Act (Paperback)
I found this book to be most riveting....well written and realistic even though a novel....almost prophetic in nature. I hope that the author writes many more books and has great success. I especially appreciated the fact that I didn't have to wade through sex and profanity.

Religious, or fanatical,
By
This review is from: The Minor Protection Act (Paperback)
Where does sane belief in God stop, and turn into foam-at- the- mouth fanaticism? When does religion go too far? And how can we stop it when it does?
Horrified at human cannibalism, the friars with Cortes' conquistadores burned every religious artifact they could find -- and wiped out all but five of the codices that chronicle the history of the Aztec empire. Early Christians and Muslims in Egypt chipped away all the 'graven images' they could reach -- and defaced some of the most beautiful art ever produced. Jodi Cowles' book is well written, with page-turning action and a very disturbing question. If 'intolerant and bigoted' religion is banned, what happens to all Christians? Do they have to take their children out of the country? Are they even allowed to meet in the name of God? Who gets to decide? Read it. And try to answer its disturbing questions in your own mind.

Be careful what you wish for...,
By M. Dawson "MD" (Simi Valley, CA) - See all my reviews

Is the very act of instituting "tolerance indoctrination" upon our society the greatest display of intolerance?
This is the crux of The Minor Protection Act. In echos of George Orwell and even Rod Serling, the Minor Protection Act hits the issue of restricting personal freedom through the guise of equalizing rights for all, dead on. As any good work of literature should, The Minor Protection Act involved me emotionally and both angered and scared me. It drew me into a United States where the Constituiton and Bill of Rights have been subverted by the desires of the few to force their doctrines on the freedoms of the many. The scariest part of this whole story is that today all you have to do is read the headlines or look at pending legislation in almost any state to see that it's not fiction. The Minor Protection Act will awaken you to the fact that what started as a "what if" idea has become a prophectic illustration of the moralistic battles being fought across our political landscape. Whatever your point of view The Minor Protection Act will stir you, involve you, and make you think. In the end, hopefully, The Minor Protection Act will move you to get invloved, to act for what you believe, and to be a participant not a spectator in the process that shapes our history. The words of one of our founding statesmen, Samuel Adams, ring as true today as they did 200 years ago. "The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks ... It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." Although our enemies have changed, the greatest of all continues to be complacency. How many voices must cry in the wilderness before they become too great to ignore? |
