FULL OF SADISTIC PLEASURES!,
By Horror Freek (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Minotauress (Paperback)
As an Edward Lee fan I eagerly anticipated the release of this book and must say that I was NOT dissapointed. This book contains two stories ( The Minotauress and The Horn Cranker) and low and behold the return of the two most vile rednecks in Luntville, Balls and Dickey! (from The Bighead). The first story in this book also reverts back briefly to Crick City (Creekers) and a certain mansion and occult style found in a previous novel (Flesh Gothic).
For the hardest of hardcore horror readers- you will surely cringe and laugh as I did while reading these deranged stories, and to everyone else I warn you. This book shatters societies norms of perverse, obscene, and offensive and inside are pages full of corpse sex, sodomy, diseased genitals, rape, extreme torture, horrific gore and an obundancy of bodily fluids. This book ascends high above a new level of discust and to Mr. Lee I commend you on a job well done!

Sick, twisted, hilarious and just downright brilliant,

The Minotauress is the most disgusting, sick, perverted piece of literature I have ever cast my eyes upon. It's absolutely fantastic and hilarious too as the story reaches its conclusion. The Spermatagoyle is a genius creation and had me chuckling merrily to myself.
It's not just disgusting though. The story is very well written, with a humourous narative style and captivates from start to finish. Bravo, Mr Lee. I look forward to reading more of your merry carnage!

I will say this: Edward Lee is one of the most skilled writers I've ever read.
I have always prided myself on not being a squicky reader and this book is one of the rare few to really "squick me out" but I persevered, and I'm glad I did. In the first book, the only thing that bummed me out was when one of the main characters, Balls didn't suffer as much as he should have. I also think Crafter should've played a bigger part. That being said, I loved how Dicky was a fat, stupid, moron who somehow became almost lovable(in a pitiful way of course) and Balls became increasingly vulgar while originally being sexist and racist. It all served to make the story so wonderful. The second story was just as well done but had one glaring flaw in it. When you dehorn a bull, cow or steer, they are not rendered harmless. In fact, they become agitated and more violent. I've seen dehorning done in real life and just because they can't gore you doesn't mean they wouldn't head butt, trample or otherwise kill you if given the chance. The main character should not have just whipped his horn crankers out like kryptonite and saved the day. While the first book"s foulness and sexism made it seem more real and gripping, the second gave me the impression that the author might actually "be" sexist. I know that this is not true, at least not by the other books I graze the backs of. But the way that Arriane thinks the hero's abuse is affection is an absurd turn off. And the hero should not have been rewarded for this. It was almost Gorean in a way except much better written. This review seems undoubtably negative. Edward I am sorry. That being taken care of, you are indeed a magnificent writer and halfway through the second story I couldn't put the iTouch down. I just finished the book two hours ago. The grammar for geniuses and "goats" alike was impeccable and I didn't find any spelling errors. I also like the way you inserted yourself comically into the story. It was a great read, and I will be checking out other works of yours.

Edward Lee is my favorite author and this is another one of his highly entertaining gory books that are usually read in 2 days. I can't complain about anything he writes.

Disappointing,
This review is from: The Minotauress (Paperback)
This novel is split into 2 stories, The Minotauress and The Horn Cracker. The first story is quite fun but ends just as it gets going and leaves you hanging as to what happens to the characters. I was expecting a lot more violence from a writer of such note as Ed Lee. There is one graphic killing and the rest is mainly gross out sexual acts. One issue I had was the continual descriptions of the writer as to how the rednecks pronouced their words (eg, right pronounced as raat). This soon becomes tiresome.
The second story is vaguely related to the first one. It starts off well but soon reverts to a standard bad vs evil and ends as you expect. The issue I had is the lead character is a woman beater who enjoys disfiguring cattle and I was rooting for the cattle to win! It's all a bit Dean Koontz with some added perversity.
