I use my Android phone to track my rides using GPS and an Android app just for keeping up with excercise. I've tried several different phone mounts...one broke in half the very first ride and ruined my Droid X.

This Minoura mount is by far the best phone mount I've been able to find. It appears to be manufactured better and stronger than the others. Even so, and based on my unfortunate experience, I'd still have the phone in a very protective case prior to inserting it into a handlebar mount such as this. And, pay attention to the fastening device...make sure you hear the "click" when you close the lever.

Just as info: I'm currently using a Droid Razr in a Otterbox Commuter case. This phone case combination is a perfect fit in the Minoura handlebar mount.

I got this universal device holder from a local bike shop in San Francisco.
I have used it a lot with an iPod and an iPhone.
Works like a charm. As I recall, the device never fell out even over gnarly bumpy street conditions.

I am a pretty extreme user. I take my bike through the rain, through sandy conditions, etc and the only thing i noticed was that the release mechanism was sticky sometimes especially after a rain.

One day it stopped working and i noticed that the bottom left corner of the back had broken off and therefore the spring mechanism stopped working.

so i started putting my device in my handlebar bag. that's a pain when you've got an ipod because you have to lock the ipod and you have to grab it and hold it to change the volume of the song. i preferred to have the ipod on my handlebars where I can adjust the volume with one finger.

after having the damaged unit on my handlebars for months i came up with the idea of contacting the company directly and asking about the warranty or whatever.
i sent them a picture. they said it was obvious that the gadget was broken by user error and not by manufacturing defect.

but here's the cool part: THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE THE TOP PART and ship it to me FREE. i still have the mount which works great. so they're sending me the top part that grips your device. talk about a cool company!

and that's my story.

This is a great mount unless you have an iPhone 5 or other phone that has the headphone jack in the lower left of the case. The Minoura has a bottom support that covers the jack. See the photo. So if you like to ride with your earbuds (I only put in one for safety) you're outta luck with the Minoura.

Look no further for a handlebar mount. This is the one. After plodding through all the choices here on Amazon and elsewhere I ordered one of these just because there were NO negative reviews (other than the lame "Not for Otter Box" one). My only concern was that my phone is a little thick (Kyocera Torque) but it just fits nice and snug and holds on tight. After several rides with the phone mounted on this thing I have absolutely no concerns about it letting go. They include a rubber band with it that I'm not even sure is necessary but I use it anyway just for the "failsafe" factor. Look no further. It's a little more expensive than most others I've seen but totally worth it. Very happy with this purchase.

You can beat the product, as long as you've secured it properly (and tight) this thing isn't going anywhere. Mind you, I got three for friends for Christmas as well, and one didn't tighten the bolt and his mount went flying; be sure to use that screwdriver.

That said, this thing is the only durable mount, (other than the lifeproof case bike mount, that needs the lifeproof case) that I would recommend to anyone with a road bike. Mountain and city bikes often have shocks that provide mounts a nice preventative to road resistance such as high-speed potholes and dips.

I've done some 70 mi with this piece and havent had any issues; now have purchased for wife, friends, mother and will continue to get these as gifts for biker friends.

Only real drawback is rainy days - you'll have to put your mount in a plastic bag, making for no music on the ride.

Ratcheting mechanism clasps phone tightly, releases quickly - both from the phone and from the handlebars if you want to remove it. The only drawback I've found is that the metal bracket is kind of heavy. This might be rectified in their new, plastic-bracket version, but I'll take the extra ounce or two for the security of the strong metal mount. I've ridden some very rough, potholed roads and my small LG smartphone has not even begun to come loose.

First of all, this thing is made in Japan so you know it's well made and engineered. I have an iPhone 5 in a slim case Belkin Grip Candy Sheer Case / Cover for Apple iPhone 5 (Black / Green) and it holds it perfectly. Getting it adjusted properly takes a little time but with a little patience it won't move.
To the person who gave it 1 star because it wouldn't fit with his Otterbox, how is that any fault of the Minoura?
In the description, it doesn't say anything about fitament with a case, especially an ugly useless Otterbox.

I replaced another inferior mount Satechi CR-3800 Universal Bicycle Holder Wrench Mount for iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, 3G, BlackBerry Torch, HTC EVO, DROID, Samsung EPIC, Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note with this amazing product. After a little of annoyance with adjusting this mount is perfect. With my last mount (see above) bumps were an issue, my phone would come loose and would rock and shimmy and was just a pain. With this mount the phone stays put and does not move a bit. I love it, and have no complaints. I would suggest to anyone looking for an amazing phone mount.

****UPDATE****

I have since gotten a new cellphone...Samsung Galaxy Note II, and it is a very, very tight squeeze getting it into this phone grip. Tight to the point that it really doesn't fit. I tried shoving the Note into the grip and the padding rubbed off a little onto the edges of the phone. I am thinking of attempting to shave down the padding a little and trying again. But, with less padding comes less protection. I will have to see what happens.
