Book Description

October 10, 2006
Providing dynamic portraits of the heroic men he meets, the brave son he lost and the most unusual venues a performer of any era could ever perform in, Sir Harry Lauder, proud Scot, world renowned entertainer, and grieving father, shares his experiences recruiting and performing for the troops in WWI in this touching, humorous and powerful memoir. His contributions ultimately earned him Winston Churchill's praise as Scotland's greatest ever ambassador.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

All books published by 1500 Books have been completely redesigned for the contemporary reader. They are reset with larger modern type. They are not facsimile replicas of old editions. In some cases spelling has been modernized, and explanatory footnotes added, but in no case have we altered the author's original words or punctuation.

About the Author

Scottish vaudevillian SIR HARRY LAUDER (1870-1950)was one of the most popular entertainers in the world before World War I, touring the globe numerous times to great acclaim. But he almost left the stage for good after his only child, Captain John Lauder, was killed in action in France just after Christmas 1916... until his wife, Nance, and his fans reminded him that his power to bring joy and laughter to the world was too important to be abandoned. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
