Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Out of all the bands that emerged in the immediate aftermath of punk rock in the late '70s, few were as enduring and popular as the Cure. Led through numerous incarnations by guitarist/vocalist Robert Smith (born April 21, 1959), the band became notorious for its slow, gloomy dirges and Smith's ghoulish appearance, a public image that often hid the diversity of… Read more in Amazon's The Cure Store

5.0 out of 5 stars "The sun is up, I'm so happy I could scream!", May 31, 2001

I can't explain it, really. This is the song (while listening to it on the Wild Mood Swings album) that turned me from a casual to a hardcore Cure fan, yet it is about as far from what most Cure music is like as you can get; but maybe that's why I love it so much, because Robert Smith has written songs that capture every mood a person can experience...and then some. I have listened to this song ad nauseum, and whenever I feel blue, this song never fails to make me smile as I sing along to it. The two remixes on this maxi-CD aren't particularly noteworthy (though the acoustic sound of the "Buskers mix" is more interesting than the "electric mix"), but as the other reviewers have noted, the B Sides on this disc are fantastic. "A Pink Dream" is about as similar to Mint Car as any Cure song written, and "Waiting" is hauntingly beautiful. It should be noted that unlike many other bands, the Cure doesn't "B Side" the songs that aren't good enough for the album--they often take songs off the album if they are somewhat duplicative (like A Pink Dream is of Mint Car) of another, or if they are disjunctive to the (usually melancholic) concept of the album. There is a lot of other great B Side material by the Cure, especially "Halo" (Friday I'm in Love) and "2Late" (Love Song). If you know and like this song, or if you are a budding Curehead, I recommend buying this CD before it goes out of print and becomes difficult to find.

If those few lyrics dont make you want to buy this single Im not for sure what will......Not only are the Mint Car mixes awsome but pink dream is delicious this is truly a great buy(ecspeacially for Cure fans!!!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cure Gets Happy, December 3, 1998

Walk on the flip-side of gloom and doom as Robert Smith shakes away those grey cloudy days with this fun up-beat melody. Not everyone knows The Cure has a big grin waiting to smile at you. A must have to scare away the blues!
