Biography

After a year and a half on the road touring 2010’s Feeding The Wolves, 10 Years reached a turning point. It was time to move forward and take full control of their career by launching their own label, Palehorse Records. In addition, the band decided to self-produce their fourth album, Minus the Machine, at drummer/guitarist Brian Vodinh’s Kashmir Recording.

Editorial Reviews

10 Years worked together as a band for the first time since writing their gold selling album, The Autumn Effect, on 2012's Minus The Machine. With that in mind, they created their most powerful songs to date relying on personal experiences all through the writing & recording process. The Knoxville, TN proud natives return with their 5th studio album expanding on their dark rock radio sound that wielded them 4 singles with gold airplay. Minus The Machine will cement the band as a staple in rock music.

Update: After several months of listening to this album, I must admit that my personal favorite is now Tightrope. It is just so emotional and haunting, I find myself humming that piano line relentlessly. I also really like the bonus track Baptized in Fire. Much more so than I did originally. The rest of my review I think accurately reflects my feelings of Minus the Machine.

This review is for the deluxe edition. The bonus track Baptized in Fire is a pretty solid rocker. Worth having for serious 10 Years fans. Ok, keeping it brief and to the point. 10 Years Minus the Machine is a strong production from the band. It boasts a heavier razor sharp distortion on the harder tracks and there are quite a few. Definitely reminiscent of their earlier work- Also reminded me in some spots of Tool's best work but definitely 10 Years signature sound. Vocal work from Mr. Hasek is excellent... and 10 Years are showing some real technical maturity. This is a real return to form from after the (in my opinion) disappointing Feeding the Wolves.

Standout tracks are Minus the Machine, Battle Lust, Backlash, Dancing with the dead, Soma, Tightrope, And All the Other Colors (these tracks are some of 10 Years best work to date). Writing on the Walls is a unique and addictive almost ballad. The other tracks (Knives, Sleeper) are unique, and solid rockers. 10 Years, without the backing of a major label (hence the title), and fending for themselves have delivered an excellent record. Well done 10 Years.

P.S. There is a lot to take in here, so it may require a couple of listens to fully appreciate this offering. Thanks for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great effort. December 8, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
10 Years is one of my favorite bands, and so I was stoked to see they had a new release. I'm not exactly sure what musical genre they truly fall into, but there are only a few bands out there with a similar musical sensibility (32 Leaves being most notable IMO). Anyway, the songs are quite powerful through and through. Some of the tracks carry that trademark lush heavy sound and others are more atmospheric, but all grip you and take you along with them as they journey through a rich, emotional landscape (or soundscape as it were). If you are a fan of the band, you will love this. They continue to grow and mature while still remaining consistent with who they are as a band. A definite logical progression from Feeding the Wolves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Familiar style, great music. October 3, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
Still in the adjustment phase when it comes to the album as I don't listen to it as much as I should due to work and a semi-hectic lifestyle, but of the several run-throughs I've had all I can say is it's good old 10 Years back at it again. Killer riffs, awesome vocals and nod-worthy music overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10 Years latest album, fantastic as always September 6, 2012
By P Hames
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
In my humble opinion, none of 10 Years' albums will ever match the first big production, Autumn Effect. The way Jesse Hasek's haunting voice flowed through that album was mesmerizing. However, their latest contribution to the world, Minus The Machine, is yet another very brilliant album. Dancing With The Dead and Soma are sleeping hits that will probably never be released to the masses. If you decide to purchase it, might I recommend the deluxe version for the 3 bonus tracks, 2 of which are acoustic. 10 Years brings acoustic music like no other hard rock band in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars On Par With Their Best August 17, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Minus The Machine is a great effort from 10 Years. I've listened to the CD about 4 to 5 times now, and it seems to get better every time. (As opposed to only being able to listen to Feeding The Wolves a couple times before it got old.) There were a couple of songs I didn't like at first, but now I feel that every single track is good. If you've been listening to 10 Years for a while or have just heard of them, you shouldn't be disappointed with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Number Five August 8, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Another great release from 10 Years. While not long in terms of time clocking in at around 43 minutes, but a very solid release. I still would have like to have seen this cd a little longer in length, but that as it may, nothing here not worth disliking if you're a 10 Years fan. I really can't say I'm seeing anything new here in terms of musical style or casting off their record label, but still a very enjoyable listen and although in similar vein to their previous albums there's enough here to make you happy with their fifth release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!! August 7, 2012

Wow!! This cd is Amazing!!! I am a huge 10 Years fan and I have been waiting for this album since I heard they were working on new music! And it definitely did not disapoint, it has to be my favorite album out of all of them! I've loved all of their stuff but there is just something different about this one! MTM has such a differnt sound that KATHY, AE, Divisions, and Feeding the Wolves don't have and it's Awesome!

Some of my favorite tracks are Forever Fields (its a really haunting/wonderful song), Minus the Machine (probably should have been their single, not backlash), Battle Lust (really great song, my only complaint is that it is too short), ...And All the Other Colors (a great finish to the album and a really Awesome song) and Writing on the Walls (another amazing song with a lot of emotion.) I like all of the songs Backlash is good but not as good as some of the other songs on this album. There is not one song on here that I don't like or skip.

If you are a fan of 10 Years DEFINITELY check Minus the Machine!! It's closer to KATHY and A.E. but different, fresh and raw at the smae time. Really great album! 5/5 Stars!

I liked the last album and in that instance I think this one kind of flopped, just didn't fit my taste when it came to 10 years.
