5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Styles Designed For Consumers To Do, October 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: 5 Minute Trendy Up-Dos (Paperback)
I bought this little book because I am all thumbs when I try to do my own hair. Yes, I can go to a stylist and spend tons of money to get a twist or an updo but I would rather learn to do my own hair myself so that I can be prepared for last minute dressy events. This book is just great. The styles are easy to follow thanks to the great step-by-step instructions. I was able to create 3 of the styles all by myself after just a few tries. I think the beauty of this book is that even as styles change the book teaches basic principles of updos and twists that hair consumers can do themselves. This may not be a high fashion trendy hairstyling book but I don't think that was the intended audience. I have looked at so called "state of the art" styling books and was befuddled.

I think that the money I spent on this book was worth every penny. Not only have I used the book over and over, now I don't have to be subjected to snotty stylists with an attitude who think they know better than me, the consumer, about what is good for my hair and how the latest fashions really look.

The authors, Barbara and Louis, obviously know that consumers want to be able to do their own hair for special events and this books delivers in spades for consumers. It may not a book for stylists but it is awesome for people who want to do their own hair and look stunning. Bravo!!!!!!

This review is from: 5 Minute Trendy Up-Dos (Paperback)
I picked up this book for a friend of mine (who has short hair) who wanted it, and after leafing through it and trying a couple of the hairstlyes for myself, I want my own copy! This book is really helpful whether you have short (at least to shoulders), medium, or long hair, but despite your hair length category, you can often indulge in styles from other sections. I have long hair and am frequently looking for unusual ways in which to wear it, and this book certainly has that. The instructions are actually pretty easy to understand, as they are clearly written and accompanied by very clear color photographs. I would give this book five stars, but some of the hairstyles are a little far-out. In addition to many very wearable and elegant choices, there are also some distinctive styles involving elaborate knots and crimps that less-daring women (or men, although the book seems to be aimed primarily at women) might shrink from. Fortunately, this will not be an impediment to enjoying and finding great use for this manual. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in hair art that can be practically applied to their own heads.

I came upon this book looking for a way to wear my hair to a special event I was attending...being all thumbs I found this book's instructions so easy to follow and the results to be absolutely gorgeous! It guides you each step of the way to accomplish a "straight from the hairdresser" look... the compliments I received at the affair attested to the fabulous results I achieved... I highly recommend this book..I'm so happy I bought it! Now, when's the next event, there's so many styles I want to try now that I know how easy it is!
