5.0 out of 5 stars Great beginner book!, February 27, 2010

This review is from: 10 * 20 * 30 Minutes to Learn to Crochet (Leisure Arts #3164) (Paperback)
I gave this to a 13-year-old who was interested in crochet. She caught on very quickly. What is really nice is that lefthanded instructions are illustrated, something that is truly needed in the world of needlework (I am a lefthanded knitter). Certainly, as one reviewer commented, some of the designs are out of date, but I have also found that many younger people are into retro and the young person to whom I gave this book found the designs "neat." We have done up some of the retro patterns in this book, in fact, and they look super in the bedroom. They are also simple to start with and that gives the beginner the confidence to continue on with the art of crochet. I recommend this book as I recommend 10-20-30 Minutes to Knit. All the different ways one could perform these handicrafts are brilliantly illustrated and described. I find that a good start in getting someone "hooked" on crochet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best beginner book out there...., December 30, 2009
This review is from: 10 * 20 * 30 Minutes to Learn to Crochet (Leisure Arts #3164) (Paperback)
Yes some of the patterns and colors in this book are outdated, but the teaching part of the book is very clear and easily understood. I have gifted this to several beginners and found they caught on very quickly every time. Its a great place to start, but once out of the beginner stage it will become a little boring but works great to reference at later times. It also teaches the granny square, which has endless opportunities to use down the road.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Wanted!!!, August 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 10 * 20 * 30 Minutes to Learn to Crochet (Leisure Arts #3164) (Paperback)
I don't know anything about crocheting. I'm not super good with my hands. I'm left-handed. I would like to learn to crochet (1st grandbaby on the way!!), but so many instructions I've seen just didn't make sense. Drawings or photos of right-hand crochet immediately turn my brain to mush. But, with this book, I have hope!! The instructions explain each step simply but fully; the drawings, both right- and left-handed, are numerous and have just the right amount of detail; and the projects, beginning with the simplest, are for items I'd actually like to make! I don't have my hook or yarn yet, but am excited and even confident.
