Book Description

A fast, unique fitness routine to help anyone jump-start their day and relax at night.

In 7 Minutes of Magic, Lee Holden shows readers how they can feel better than ever-with more energy and less stress every day-in only seven minutes. Why seven minutes? According to Eastern philosophy, in seven minutes people can transform the energy in their bodies. Holden brings together the best of Eastern fitness-qi gong, yoga, tai chi-as well as Western exercise to give readers a quick, practical routine in the morning and the evening that will dramatically enhance their energy and fitness levels each day.

The morning workout wakes up the body-with flowing movements to jump-start the muscles and mind for the day ahead. Like a morning cup of coffee-but without the caffeine crash-the effects of this seven-minute routine last all day. In the evening, the workout clears stress and tension from the body, calms the mind, and promotes sound, restorative sleep. A healthy alternative to an evening cocktail, this program will helpreaders unwind as never before. In addition to the seven-minute routine that is perfect for time-pressed workdays, the book provides further practices for more relaxed weekends, as well as alternative exercises for back and neck pain. Holden also offers nutritional tips and advice on simple lifestyle changes that readers can incorporate into their day to enhance the exercise program. Illustrated with one hundred step-by-step, black-and-white photographs and accompanied by how-to instructions, 7 Minutes of Magic brings the ancient secrets of Eastern "magic" for the body and mind to readers everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Efficient Plan for Better Health and Less Stress, June 12, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 7 Minutes of Magic: The Ultimate Energy Workout (Hardcover)
"I don't have time to workout!" is probably the most common excuse in the world, but this book will pull that rug right out from under you. 7 Minutes of Magic provides a realistic program that can improve your health in 7, 14 or 21 minutes a day. Are you going to lose 30 pounds in a month with this program? No, but you will certainly feel better and lay the foundation for a healthier lifestyle. I would describe the plan as a mix of yoga, isometric exercise and calisthenics, with a good dose of Tai Chi and Qi Gong thrown in. The primary plans are for morning and evening workouts with a bonus 7 minute plan and extra exercises that you can use to customize your program. The book also contains good advice about nutrition and meditation. If you already exercise an hour a day, you might still benefit from this program, but I think it is best suited for people trying to take the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle. You can also buy a companion dvd, but the book has enough photos and explanations to make that purchase optional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Renewed Energy, August 2, 2007
This review is from: 7 Minutes of Magic: The Ultimate Energy Workout (Hardcover)
This is an amazing routine for renewing energy, feeling centered, and sleeping well. I first started using the 7 minute morning and evening routine when I was jetlagged and in the middle of a 4 day training which lasted over 8 hours a day. Usually, I have a hard time keeping my energy up during these trainings, but the day I started the routine, I felt amazing. I had a clear mind and sustained energy throughout the day. I have been doing the routine for about 2 weeks and haven't felt this energized in 2 years. I have already bought this book and a DVD as gifts for loved ones. I highly recommend this publication.

2.0 out of 5 stars Photos hard to use and not much substance to the text, February 13, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 7 Minutes of Magic: The Ultimate Energy Workout (Hardcover)
There is always a problem using printed still photos to guide a person through a moving exercise, and this book doesn't solve that problem. Unfortunately, though the photos do break each movement down into steps, the steps often continue through a page turn, making them very difficult to use. The text offers some chapters on the Chinese approach to health that are not especially illuminating.
Oddly, the DVD of the same title, though not available on Amazon, is quite a bit more helpful and includes very nice music. The book, however, was very disappointing.
