In the past, I was often frustrated at how loooooong it took and how much "work" my boyfriend had to put in to get me there. This technique doesn't take a sexual genius (or any talent, for that matter) to understand or do, and even though this certainly isn't written by a literary master, this book provided ME the control, rather than being at the "mercy" of my boyfriend. Now, I climax just as many times (if not more) and more quickly than him!

1.0 out of 5 stars READ WITH CAUTION, May 9, 2008

My boyfriend and I found this book to be not only disturbing but also harmful to our sexual life. Hutchins is not a professional sex therapist and not only does she discredit some of our most enjoyable sexual activities, she also marginalizes men, women, and the diverse nature of female orgasm and the connection between partners (for example, she RECOMMENDS that partners fantasize about others while fantasizing that they themselves are someone else, not exactly a recipe for closeness between partners). Her arguments are reductionist in nature and reek of a hidden agenda based upon her personal sexual attitudes and prejudices. Please read this book with a certain amount of caution. There is perhaps information that some will find useful, but overall the book for my partner and I proved to be immensely depressing, damaging, under-researched, and not professionally presented as she continuously presents her own opinion as fact and the one-sided nature of her arguments are sure to make other women and couples feel as though the nature of their connection and the methods of their sexual release are inferior. May we suggest: "The Elusive Orgasm: A Woman's Guide to Why She Can't and How She Can Orgasm" by Dr. Vivienne Cass, PhD.

1.0 out of 5 stars In a word: ridiculous, August 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Five Minutes to Orgasm Every Time You Make Love-For Women Only (Mass Market Paperback)
If there was an option for no stars, that's what this book deserves. Save your money: all it says is to get on top and masturbate. For over 100 pages. As soon as I finished this book, I tossed it in the trash.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for Romantics, October 25, 2004
This book is not for romantics. It's about the mechanics of having an orgasm during sex - if you are a woman who has been unable to reach that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The technique is simple, concise and to the point. If you are looking for something that talks about mood setting and flowers, you are out of luck. Just practical down to earth advice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing at best! A book about "giving up", September 15, 2008
This book was really disappointing. Basically, it tells women: "just give up, you will always take too long to have an orgasm with your partner; just close your eyes, be on top, masturbate, and fantasize while you do it". Nothing wrong with doing any of this, but I couldn't help sensing a feeling of defeat while reading this book...on one hand, the book has its merits for translating to words what many women feel about orgasm, that it takes much longer with a partner than alone, that men have trouble learning the right speed and pressure a women need, that sometimes we are just lazy to go through the whole "process", how frustrated women get when the sex is over and the women hasn't come, etc. (and this why I gave it 2 starts instead of 1 - for its honesty!). However, the solution that the author points out (the so called "3 step") is basically: (1) be on top of your lover (we all know this is the best position for women); (ii) masturbate while you are on top; and (iii) have fantasies to help you have an orgasm quicker.
Guess what the 5 min refer to? Women usually take 4 min to reach orgasm when masturbating themselves! So why not 5 min when doing te same on top of your lover?
In the end, I felt she was talking more about 2 people masturbating on each other, than about a sexual experience you can only have as a couple. This is quite sad. Her honesty and good descriptions added to the "solution" she proposes translates to me as the following message: "just give up women, and masturbate!"
I want to keep trytng to reach orgasm faster with my lover without having to masturbate. This I can do alone! Agree?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Professional's Point of View, March 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Five Minutes to Orgasm Every Time You Make Love-For Women Only (Mass Market Paperback)
As a licensed sex therapist, I had read this book a couple of months ago, but wasn't too impressed. It wasn't "scholarly" enough to impress me. Then one of my female patients told me how it had helped her relationship, and I took another look. What I missed before was the tone of the book, which is ideally suited for getting simple ideas across in a non-clinical way. It communicates to women like a friendly chat between friends. The approach is non-judgmental and supportive. The author more or less says, "if nothing's worked for your before, don't give up. Try this out." The formula in the book won't work for everyone, and not every couple will want to use it. But it's there if they choose. I believe Ms. Hutchins sincerely wants to help women, and has found a simple way to do it.

I bought this book based on the other customer reviews, and I wasted my money. You are better off going to a library and reading magazine articles about making love and orgams. It's all the same information. If you want a long orgamsic history and want to know the 3 steps, which she takes forever to "reveal", then waste your money. But basically, do everything they always say, be on top, and add a few candles.

This book is not anything that is new. If your partner likes to please herself and you like to watch then this is a good book for you. We found it dissapointing and very unrevealing. We sent it back!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable Orgasm Every Time, October 3, 2000
By A Customer
I thought this book summarized one of the major problems with sex, and that is that we women try to put too many prerequisites on every sexual encounter. The "kissing, the touching, the positioning and all the other sequenced bedroom behavior ... can signal trouble and postpone blast off -- especially for women." We make romance a requirement for intercourse, and sometimes, often, there isn't time for a long, drawn-out sexual experience. We end up disappointed. This book "cuts to the chase" and shows women how to orgasm quickly and reliably every time. It gives women that OPTION -- an option that men have had for years.

2.0 out of 5 stars Read ANY other sex books? - Then don't bother with this one!, October 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Five Minutes to Orgasm Every Time You Make Love-For Women Only (Mass Market Paperback)
If you're an avid reader of sexual "self-help" books, then this book will be a complete let down. Yes, it has some good basics, and yes, it's easy, quick reading, but if you're hoping it will provide some real enlightenment on how to reach more/better orgasms (as I was), then don't waste your time. The information is extremely topical and not worth the money. Personally, I recommend Graham Masterson's books - they're all great; full of useful information and interesting reading.
