First, understand water base wood finish is not right.
It takes solvent base stain and finish to penetrate the wood and let you see the wood after you finish it.

Water base products SIT ON TOP of the wood and build up and become opaque. It is like paint.
Well, actually it IS watercolor paint.
But sometimes you cannot have the fumes of solvents, which is the ONLY good reason to use water base.
Second best solution is to use a water base stain and follow with a water base finish.
But this stuff takes practice and understanding it is not the easiest to use.

You are really going to be unhappy if you try water base stain & finish in one product. That would be a very long explanation, so just trust me on that.

Some people don't like this product, but if you understand it is a watercolor PAINT and adapt accordingly, it can work.
I have just used it and ended up fairly pleased. Much superior to other waterbase products I have had to use.
Be sure to use THIN gently wiped on coats. I used cheesecloth folded into a pad to wipe it. (You can get this in paint departments.) Don't try to load it on. AND DON'T BE IN A HURRY.

Resolve to use at least 2 coats, to help it not to be blotchy.

Make sure to gently wipe and don't rush the application, you must ease it on.
You can actually get a sheen if you patiently apply 3 or more coats.
If you want a smooth finish, VERY lightly use medium to fine steel wool after the 3rd coat and do a 4th gently wiped on coat.
Or skip the 4th coat and do a clear over the color. (I am planning to use a wiping polyurethane of the stinky solvent type later when the weather is good.)
BE AWARE that this product will look fairly opaque. It is the nature of the beast.

Color Name: Indigo Verified Purchase
I've bought several tubes of Minwax water based express color wiping stain. I first used it on some bookcases we built. It was very easy to use and the color (the green stain) is beautiful. Very deep and rich. I did something unorthodox with the indigo stain. I wanted to stain some chairs and I wanted a blue stain. Just exactly the color of this indigo stain but it was indoor only. (The chairs were for outdoor use) I said what the heck. I was going to use outdoor varathane on them, so I figured they would be protected. So if the color would fade, I was OK with that. It hasn't faded so far.
We also put up a gate we made with port orford cedar and I used the indigo stain on it. Looks beautiful. I also used four coats of outdoor varathane on the gate and fence we're putting up. It's a kind of art project.
If you are someone who always follows the rules on packages, this wouldn't be for you. But this stuff goes on so easily (I used a spong brush) and a towel to wipe off the excess) and the result is terrific.

Color Name: Emerald Verified Purchase
I used Miniwax Water Based Express Color Wiping
Stain in Emerald. I used it on a wooden tall stool that is quite nicked from being around a long time. I sanded first, which is in the directions but I didn't use a tack cloth after, I used a microfiber cloth and it worked well. At first the color did not "take" on the wood but after some wiping (not rubbing) the emerald green color appeared sort of suddenly. It took 2 tubes of product to cover the stool. I like this product and have used the Indigo on a small cabinet and a small stool. The colors are good, not too bright with a antique- ish look. You have to give it a clear finish after drying for a few hours. The tube squirts out so there is not so much control and it could get messy if you are not careful.

Color Name: Onyx Verified Purchase
Minwax 30808 Water Based Express Color Wiping Stain and Finish, OnyxUsed this product to blacken some cherry molding. Needed lots of black molding but could not aford black ebony. Used this product instead. Contrast with the warm brown/red cherry book case was beautiful. The molding turned out very black with consistant color. No light spots or streaks shown thru. One coat was all it took. Application was very easy with a foam brush. Toped with wipe on tung oil varnish mix. Again no streaking or blending with the oil varnish.

When you squeeze it normally, the stain won't go out, when you squeeze it hard, it will spray to everywhere on your floor. Glad I only used it in garage.

Also the Mahogany color is so ugly, it is not Mahogany, it is a kind of blood red color.
