4.0 out of 5 stars Great motivator!
I LOVE my Motiva! I've had it for a couple of months now and my favorite thing is the ability to track how much energy you've expended in order to loose one pound of weight. This really is motivational for me, I have a weekly goal and my Motiva encourages me all they way. As other reviewers have mentioned, the watch is large, I wouldn't really call it a fashion statement,...

Here's my review as a long-term Mio user. I didn't erase my initial gut reaction, which is below it.

As time goes on, I love this thing more and more. I actually wear it pretty consistently- but then, I have an active job, as opposed to lugging it around in an office setting. I can't go to the gym without it. I would re-rate it 6 stars, if I could. It's a lot more user-friendly than my old Polar monitor. I do occasionally miss the chest strap, when I am doing things like rowing and cycling, but I guess it's extra incentive to become more coordinated.

People do ask you about it, particularly when you wear it with the eye-catching colored straps. I had one guy come up to me and ask me if I was wearing a wrist communicator, and I am pretty sure we were miles away from the nearest Star Trek convention.

It's called "Motiva" for a reason- not only does it motivate me, my exercise buddies now ask me "How many calories have we burned?" instead of "What time is it?" and are now shopping for Motivas of their own. That's a pretty ringing endorsement!

Old review:

I have been looking at the Mio watches for awhile. I knew I wanted something that could monitor exercise, and had calorie counting features. Initially, I read reviews about the earlier versions, and they mentioned that women might want the petite version. I am not a small woman- I like bigger jewelry that makes a statement, so I wasn't too worried about the Mio Heart Rate Monitor/Watches being overpowering on me.

Then I got this thing, and it is huge. HUGE, to the point of being obnoxious. Not only does it dwarf my fairly strapping hands and wrists, it even looks seriously substantial on my husband, who is 6'5". I am not sure who could pull it off without looking like a dork, except perhaps for Shaquille O'Neill, and then obviously not with the pink interchangeable strap. Since this was intended to be something that was for all day every day wear, at least by me, I am not sure if it's going to fly.

I haven't used it yet, but plan to incorporate it into my workouts starting tomorrow. I hope it makes up for its clunkiness with superb monitoring and tracking, because if not, I am taking advantage of the Amazon return policy and getting a more petite version.

Good things so far- easy to program, pretty intuitive after initial setup, and there is an extra watch band which is black and charcoal in case you don't feel like Barbie on any particular day.

Bad- Bigger than a breadbox, which is bad for anything that you wear on your wrist.

Update: I like this thing more, the more I use it. It can be a pain to have to press down on the sensors, after the old chest strap on my Polar monitor, but it is a lot more accessible- just press some buttons rather than wear a chest strap all day. I actually give it four stars, deducting one, because, once again, the thing is massive.

I LOVE my Motiva! I've had it for a couple of months now and my favorite thing is the ability to track how much energy you've expended in order to loose one pound of weight. This really is motivational for me, I have a weekly goal and my Motiva encourages me all they way. As other reviewers have mentioned, the watch is large, I wouldn't really call it a fashion statement, but I only wear it when I'm working out, so the size has never bothered me. The only negative thing I can say about my Motiva, is there are a lot of steps to reset the tracking programs and when I've lost weight and entered in the new info, the one pound tracker will reset itself. This could totally be "user error," but it's happened to me a couple of times, so I'm still trying to figure it all out. Overall I would highly recommend this product if you need a good heart rate monitor and a little extra encouragement.

5.0 out of 5 stars love it!, April 14, 2008
This review is from: MioPINK Motiva Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
I love my new watch! It does everything I hoped it would, it's athletic and pink. I looked at it and was a little leary because other reviews said it was too big, but I like sporty watches anyway, so I took the chance. I am so glad I did. I love the 3500 calorie program and the accuracy of the calories burned. On the fashion side of things, I have had so many women tell me how much they like it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Calorie Countdown, March 29, 2008
This review is from: MioPINK Motiva Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
Yes, this watch is huge. I mean really huge. But, I don't wear it as an everyday piece of jewelry. I only wear it when working out. So, the size of it doesn't really matter that much. The calorie count that you are burning when working out is really inspiring and motivating to me. I don't really use it for anything other than timing my workout and counting how many calories that I have burned. I know that it does other things as well but it seems a bit confusing to figure out all that other stuff......

This review is from: MioPINK Motiva Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
Based on the reviews for this product, I expected great things, but was incredibly disappointed. I first tried this watch when I went for a run. I could not get a heart rate reading without having to stop to a slow walk. I figured, maybe I am just moving around too much and can't hold steady while running to get a good read. I thought it would work much better in a spin class, so the following morning I wore it at a spin class, and every single time I tried to get a heart rate reading, I got nothing! I was defintitely doing everything according to the instructions. THe little "TEST" reading with the heart came up, but NO READING! I must have tried it at least 10 different times during the class. Needless to say, I am VERY disappointed with this product and am returning it. Unfortunately for me, the company charges a "15% restocking fee" which I think is totally bogus. Don't buy this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars watch clock cool over 40 nearsighted, March 12, 2008

Finally something for us over 40, near and farsighted.
I love statement jewelery. I don't have to put on my reading glasses to read the watch. I find it user friendly
for those 40 and over. I like a larger face, and bigger display with more user friendly buttons as oppossed to micro size buttons that require more skill then I have.
I am releaved at not having to write down every piece
of food that goes in my mouth. Love the calorie countdown.
No more searching for trackers pens or papers for dieting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed - customer service even worse, April 9, 2009
This review is from: MioPINK Motiva Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
I read many reviews stating that the heart rate readings were accurate, but I've been disappointed. I often get dramatically different readings for very similar workouts...and sometimes I'll check my heart rate in the middle of a workout when I know it should be high, and it shows at close to a resting heart rate. I called customer service because at one point it was showing 0 calories for full workouts. I couldn't get through on the phone and it took days for them to get back to voicemail and email (even though they commit to much shorter timeframes). What's worse - you have to pay to send it back to them and have them evaluate it. That's ridiculous - I've only had it for 2 months. And after all this, the watch does not provide an average, high, or low heart rate for your workout. From my perspective, I should have saved the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars MioPINK Motiva Heart Rate Monitor Watch, February 18, 2009

The MioPINK Motiva Heart Rate Monitor Watch is FANTASTIC!!! I wear it everyday and it is not only functional it's "girly" and tough! It is a large watch and it has a great band that can range from a tiny arm to very large. I love that I can program my name on it, and it's easy to read and is fast giving my heart rate. I love the timer and I love this watch. If this watch was black, as a woman it would be hard to just wear around....being pink, it's a MUST!!! (It comes with a black band too but I will NEVER change my Pink) This watch is a MUST GET!!! I have had several different types of these heart rate watches and this is by far the best for the price!!! For hardcore training I highly recommend the Garmin 305. I LOVE MY MioPINK for everyday taining at a good price!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Watch!, June 20, 2008
This review is from: MioPINK Motiva Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
I received my pink mio watch in the mail yesterday and I love it! I have been shopping for a wireless heart rate monitor watch for about 6 months and after looking in all of my local stores I decided to order one. This one is great. I tried it out last night and the heart rate monitor is very accurate, I love the sporty style of the watch(although it is not petite by any means), and it is very user firendly. I am very satisfied with this purchase and I would recommend this watch to anyone (as long as you aren't afraid of people coming up and asking you why you are wearing a small computer on your wrist!).

1.0 out of 5 stars Really not for everyone, January 9, 2009
This review is from: MioPINK Motiva Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
It's been said before - this a really big watch. Even if you like big watches. But more than that - maybe I'm doing something wrong but...
THIS WILL NOT READ YOUR HEART RATE WHILE YOU ARE MOVING.
Understand, you must nearly stop before the sensors will stop the Test blinking & give a reading. Also, this thing gives me consistently lower readings than my Polar with the chest strap. I've grown to believe the Polar readings to be more accurate. So if you're looking to exercise at a certain heart rate for maximum benefit, this monitor will not help you.
Perhaps most people use the heart rate after exercise or such but I like knowing where I am during my sessions.
So for me, I'm giving it one star because I really liked the concept.
