I got a copy of Dr. Platt's book by accident, but when I started reading it I (and my partner) saw ourselves in the pages. It was really quite remarkable, as Dr. Platt seemed to be writing about us. The book gave us hope for renewed health, and on the basis of it, we scheduled an appointment with him on Jan 3, 2007 (we live in California).

We have been following his program for less than a full week after driving back from Palm Desert, but the results have already been astonishing. My partner was sleeping 12-13 hours a day and was always exhausted; she is now sleeping 8 hours a day and waking up naturally, rested. For the last year we had to drug ourselves with benadryl and melatonin to sleep; now, with the progesterone cream, we are sleeping easily and well. We both have energy again, and the brain fog is starting to clear. My partner was so depressed she was literally suicidal, yet all the anti-depressants in the world were not helping. She is no longer taking anti-depressants, yet she is in a better mood than I have seen her in YEARS. She was struggling to work 3-4 hours a day, and she has put in FULL 8 HOUR DAYS every day this week. There is no explanation for this major change other than the fact that she has been taking the thyroid and hormone medications prescribed by Dr. Platt. She has also been getting very ill with respiratory illnesses every winter for her entire life -- especially the last few years -- and she is now -- in just a week! -- in better health than she has been in years. I know it sounds too good to be true, but it is true.

I have already lost nearly 6 pounds in five days, and I haven't even been 100?% compliant with cutting out refined carbs (I've been 95% compliant, my partner has been 100% compliant). What is most astonishing is that neither one of us have the cravings for sugar, white bread, candy, baked goods that we had before we started on Dr. Platt's regimine. Before, we would try not to eat carbs, but it was just impossible -- the cravings were too great. I attribute the lack of cravings to the hormones that Dr. Platt prescribed.

I don't know what will happen over the long term, but I do know this -- the results we seen in just the last week are nothing short of miraculous. We are going to keep this up. I won't bore everyone with the details of the major health problems we've both had during the last 10-15 years, but I will say that we had pretty much given up hope. I am 49 and my partner is 54, and we have real optomism now that we can regain our health and enjoy the rest of our lives with mobility and joy. Now I really believe that my lifelong goal of hiking down and up the Grand Canyon can be achieved, because now I really believe I can get the weight off that it will take to accomplish that goal.

Dr. Platt was kind, gentle, and factual when we met with him. His office staff is first rate. It was a blessing to talk to someone who, for the first time, didn't blame us for our weight and health problems. It was a blessing to have someone treat us as humans, not as lab results.

I recommend this book to anyone who is persistently, consistently overweight or is experiencing high blood sugar, etc. I recommend that you find the money and consult with Dr. Platt if there isn't someone in your area who will do hormone replacement. I think this is, at last, the real deal.

I've read quite a few books on bio-identical hormones but this is one of the best. It is informative & easy to understand. Dr Platt doesn't present hormones as strictly a female or menopausal issue. He presents it as a human issue & gives examples of men & women, young & old who have benefitted from the balancing of their hormones. Although the state of health care in America is at a very scary place, Dr Platt sheds a great ray of hope & light on human health. A fascinating read.

I think Platt makes some important points. It's also important to know that he does focus alot on weight loss and the control of insulen. I have researched other sources who disagree with his perspective on estrogen. If you read this book be sure to also read Dr. Uzzi Reiss's book Natural Hormone Balance for Women. He has a very different perspective on bio-identical estrogen. He has also been prescribing these natural hormones for 20 years so he has lots of research and experience. I have been using the bio-identical estrogen and progesterone with fabulous results and no negative side effects! The progesterone without the estrogen just didn't really cut it. Both books speak intelligently to the complete disregard of women's health by drug companies in the name of profit. There aren't too many doctor's out there who know how to administer bio identical hormones.

There's two big problems with this book: it promotes estrogen-phobia and recommends non-bioidentical hormones (even though the title is The Miracle of Bio-Identical Hormones).

It claims that estrogens promote uterus and breast cancers. But doesn't mention that the reason young women don't get cancers when their estrogen is at its highest is because it's balanced by progesterone. Doesn't mention the safety of any natural estrogen replacement therapy when it's balanced with progesterone. The book does not mention that a decline of estrogen leads to heart disease, osteoporosis, mood problems, etc. There's no proper presentation of menopause in this book. Moreover, the book implies estrogen is useless other than for getting pregnant and it has no effect on sex. Check the textbooks. Estrogen has a powerful libido-enhancing and mood-enhancing effect on woman's body. Everybody knows what happens to poor women when they go through the menopause. The book claims progesterone boosts libido. As an anti-depressant it actually has a libido-reducing and relaxation effects. Progesterone is great for health but sorry it doesn't effect the libido. Also, the amounts of progesterone recommended seem high.

The book screams 'bio-identical' and 'natural' on every page. Yet, it recommends synthetic thyroid and the non-bio-identical estrogen (1 of the 3 estrogens is missing in the recommended cocktail). Then talk about cancers.

This book is not very good with common sense and doesn't contains references to works of other people or offers much reasoning for the claims made. It's got "personal bias" and "free interpretation" written all over it. There are much better books on the market:

- What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause (TM): The Breakthrough Book on Natural Hormone Balance by John R. Lee
- The Hormone Solution: Stay Younger Longer with Natural Hormone and Nutrition Therapies by Thierry Dr Hertoghe

You can't educate yourself about natural hormones by reading this book!

What a gem! What a fountain of knowledge! An absolute must for those who want to be proactive with their health. Clearly, Dr. Platt has mastered the knowledge of bio-identical hormones and how they should be used to be most effective and safe. This book is a powerful counterpoint to mainstream medical establishment who seems not to be practicing preventative medicine. Perhaps most striking is the positive approach which Dr. Platt is taking....YES, you can be helped. I am here to give you the time and attention you deserve! He is a visionary of the New Frontier. He has unique, cutting-edge solutions based on his wide patient experiences with bio-identical progesterone which promises to cure such difficult problems as ADD and ADHD. He also presents valuable advice for treating hot flashes, fibromyalgia, anger, night sweats, asthma, osteopososis, diabetes and sub-clinical diabetes. A must read for the general public as well as medical professionals who need alternatives to the prescription drug approach. I was really suprised that such an inexpensive book could be filled with such valuable information. It even has a test to take and gives a web-site address to a specialist in this field to recommend a plan for you. I found a really great doctor in my local area that I go to regularly now and he has helped me get well. Thank you Amazon, for carrying this book. I have recommended it to others and recommend it to anyone who is having problems, male or female.

As an American society, we are not educated on this topic. And it could save millions of lives! I was enlightened to discover a Doctor who has so much compassion for people and is so effective at what he does. I booked an appointment right in the middle of the book and was so impressed at how much time he gave me on our first meeting. I'm all for preventive medicine the miracle of natural biodentical hormones! A month ago I was at my wit's end from being exhausted, too emotional, not losing weight, and a list of other symptoms... and now... I'm already feeling and seeing a difference! I've got my Mom going now and my friends asking for his number.
