Unbreakable swaddle but won't accomodate an older infant,

Edited: My son measured 14 lbs, 23.5 inches a week ago (75th percentile for height). The last few times I've swaddled him he's wiggled his legs out of the pocket at the bottom of the swaddle wrap, so he might be getting close to it's maximum range of use. I wouldn't call him overly active, and just wanted to add this comment in case it was a concern for anyone looking into this wrap. It's not a problem for me as the weather is warm and kicking out of the pocket does not affect the swaddle on the arms. Really, this wrap is so lightweight, it's not providing any more than a lightweight covering. I'd probably knock my rating down to four stars for not accommodating a longer (or older) infant. There is no way this will last him until 12 weeks as the product literature suggests. Additionally, with a previous child, I swaddled longer than 12 weeks. This swaddle wrap does not allow for extended swaddling if the leg pocket is used.
I've tried many different swaddlers: Halo Innovations Sleepsack Swaddle 100% Cotton, Cream, Small, Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe Microfleece, and Aden & Anais Safari Friends Swaddle Wraps 4 Pack, and now the Miracle Blanket. I'd have to say of the four methods, the Miracle Blanket holds the most secure swaddle, especially on my larger (90th percentile), and active 8 week old baby. The instructions indicate that this blanket can be used from birth to 12 weeks. There is no weight range given. Despite having no velcro or snaps, the method of folding keeps the baby in a solid swaddle. First the baby is placed on the open swaddle blanket, which is shaped like a 'T'. There are two wing shaped flaps that fold over the baby's arms, then baby's legs are tucked into a pocket. Finally, one arm of the 'T' is wrapped around the body of the baby. The end of the flap will end up in different places depending on the size of your baby. This method, although very a secure swaddle, is a bit more complicated than the Halo or the SwaddleMe. Although it is probably less complicated than when using a traditional square blanket to swaddle. The fabric is a good quality knit that stretches, but not to excess. I like that you can leave the baby's legs out of the pocket if you should so desire (hot weather, etc). This pull down pocket also makes middle-of-the-night diaper changes easier in that you don't need to entirely unswaddle the baby. My 23.5" 8 week old has kicked the pocket off on one occasion. He still fits comfortably in it at 14 pounds, although his legs do reach to the bottom of the pocket. The flap ends up under his body rather than folded on top as the product picture shows. PROS: Very secure swaddle No velcro to stick to everything in the wash or scratch the baby Lightweight material - good for hot weather CONS: Takes longer to swaddle than a velcro tab swaddle such as the Halo Swaddle or the Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe: You need to lift the baby's legs to wrap the flap around their body End of flap from the wrap around the baby tends to get in the way when moving the baby since it is not secured Pocket is not very deep and baby might kick his way out of it, although it would not effect the swaddle on the arms Priced a little high for what it is In summary, this is a great swaddle wrap for babies who tend to 'escape' from other swaddlers. It is also nice to only have to purchase one blanket, and not multiple sizes as one has to do with the Halo and the SwaddleMe.

We added Miracle Blankets to our baby registry after hearing a friend rave about them. Thank heavens we did! In our childbirth classes, my husband and I were the most swaddling-impaired of all our classmates! For whatever reason, we just couldn't get it right. Luckily, these blankets make it easy enough for a monkey to swaddle a baby. My only criticism is that the colored versions of these blankets are not as soft or stretchy as the unbleached cotton ones. But they're still worthy of 5 stars.
Seattle recently had a heat wave, and one night we tried putting our newborn son in a light sleep sack instead of his Miracle Blanket. He woke nearly every 10-30 minutes due to startling himself with his arms and legs. After half a sleepless night, we wrapped him up tightly in one of these blankies and it was smooth sailing for the rest of the night. Another thing I like about these blankets is that you can easily pull the leg pouch down to check a diaper in the middle of the night and it won't ruin the swaddle. Perfect for people who, like me, are obsessed with keeping their little one dry! Our friend's baby is now 6 months old and they've warned us that these blankets might actually be a little TOO good. Their daughter is now 6 months old and she still prefers to sleep with them - despite having outgrown them months ago. So they just wrap her up and leave her legs out.

A friend of a friend recommended this to me. If I had only had this swaddler with my fist born! Our newborn was waking up between feedings at night because of his arms involuntarily twitching. He would knock his pacifier out of his mouth. So needless to say, we weren't getting much sleep between feedings at night. I ordered the Miracle Blanket and my newborn slept uninterrupted by his twitching arms. He only woke up for his feedings. I also swaddle him for his naps. This swaddler is light weight, stretchy and easy to care for. We liked it so much, we ordered 2 more. I'm just dreading the day he's outgrown it.

My son slept for hours longer when swaddled in this blanket vs other swaddling blankets or not swaddled. We used it until he was 7 months, when he decided he wanted to sleep on his tummy. We had one bad night of transition then he happily slept without it. This blanket worked wonders for my son so we both could get the sleep we needed.

This product is great if your little one has involuntary movements in his/her sleep and wakes his/herself up. This blanket helped us swaddle our son like they did in the hospital which enabled him to sleep longer without waking himself.

Couldn't live without this thing!
Some babies NEED to be swaddled. Often, the baby that most needs to be swaddled is also very good at escaping from a regular blanket swaddle and waking himself up. This was our baby. We tried the Kiddopotamus swaddler, (which I think is a good product for most babies) without success. He was able to sneak his hands up and out of the neck hole. The miracle blanket is great though! At 12 weeks we are still using it every night and for some naps. It always keeps him snug. We found it no more difficult than wrapping him in a traditional blanket, and we are able to change his diaper at night without unwrapping him. It has even been great for the past few weeks that he has been in a Pavlik harness for hip dysplasia which doesn't allow for swaddling of the legs. We just wrap his arms and leave his legs out of the pocket and we never find it up around his face like we would with a regular blanket. Great product for a baby with busy arms!

I used the Miracle Blanket for my daughter and knew I had to order one for my son! I typically start swaddling with the Swaddle Me blanket, but within about 6 weeks my kids tend to become strong enough to bust out of them...which is when I move them to the Miracle Blanket. It's practically impossible for them to get out of it! I do find that my son can kick his legs out of it, but certainly can't get his arms loose -- and his arms are what I want swaddled the most anyways. At now 11 weeks old we're still swaddling him with the Miracle Blanket because he still has startle reflexes which would wake him up if we didn't have this. A definite must for anyone swaddling their little one!

my baby can break out of every swaddle blanket except this one. really helped her sleep for longer periods of time. i definitely think it's worth it if you have a fidgety baby.

This blanket worked well for my daughter. Involuntary arm waving in her sleep would often wake her up, and this blanket solved that problem. We stopped using it at about 14 weeks when she began to get some control over her arms and hands.

I have tried the summer infant brand swaddlers and the miracle blanket is the only swaddler that works for my little Houdini. I love that it's effectiveness isn't solely reliant on tightness, but also tucking. I hated having to wrap my son so tightly with other brands to get them to almost work. This blanket's design is very well thought out. It is definitely worth the extra few bucks for the extra sleep at night. This is the only way my son won't wake himself up at night. Thank you Miracle Blanket for extended sleep for baby and mommy!
