Miracle Caster! Extra Large Chair Wheels. Set of Five. Great for carpet. Replaces chair mat.

These wheels have solved my problem. With a carpet and padding underneath, it was hard to roll my office style chair around. If I was sitting a little forward on the chair, it would tip forward rather than roll forward. If I was standing near the chair and wanted to move it, pushing at the top of the back of the chair would only tip it over.

I tried a vinyl mat. The result was the formation of little "craters" where I sat in the chair most. That made it even harder to move the chair. I then tried cutting a large piece of fibre-board into a chair mat. The result of that was such generation of static electricity that I believe it was the cause of both my system unit and monitor power supplies failing with a literal bang.

With these big casters, the chair rolls easily and can be easily pushed without tipping.

Yes, these arrived very promptly and are now working very well on my carpet. I love them.

No, they were not easy to install. They are just a teensy weensy bit larger in shaft diameter than my old wheels, which I had measured. Remove the old wheel, easy - done. Install the new wheel, push, push with no result. Compare with old wheel shaft - you'd need a micrometer to prove the size difference. Out to the garage, returning with a scrap of 1x2 firring strip and a rubber mallet. Align new wheel shaft carefully, pound away - protect fingers and knuckles. Ah, the first wheel grudgingly slides in and seats cleanly. Same scenario with the remaining four wheels.

No installation hints from the seller. Not an easy task for every consumer. I'm deducting one star for that.

Notice packed with the wheels: if I should decide to return them, they must be pristine and undamaged, and the seller will charge me a 20% restocking fee (plus my cost of return shipping). Off comes another star for bad attitude.

But, I was lucky. I strong armed the installation and got the wheels in just fine. And, with my knuckles intact. May you all do so well.

Additional Comments:

After a couple of months, my big wheels were doing fine, but the chair I installed them in broke, and right where the wheel was installed. Luckily, I was able to repair the wheel mount area with some dental tools and a great epoxy filler (both discovered with and purchased on Amazon). A second wheel mount in the chair has broken, because the big wheel shafts are just a millimeter or so larger than the original wheels and had to be forced in place. I'm capitulating and buying a quality plastic chair mat. The purchase price of the big wheels was essentially wasted for me. Deducting another star from my rating.

If you want to try these wheels, I would suggest you first buy or borrow a 7/16" drill bit, remove an existing wheel and test for a comfortable fit with the drill bit shaft.

After another spill, I finally had to give up and buy a new chair. So, I'm deducting another star.
If they don't seem to fit in place easily for you, I suggest you stop and contact the seller promptly.

I purchased these for my Herman Miller Aeron chair. I had high hopes for these wheels since I don't want to purchase a $200 mat. I have soft carpet with nice padding underneath. I had previously purchased a basic mat from Office Depot and the wheels would sink into the mat. These wheels are about as much help as that mat was. The chair does roll a little better - I can get it to move - but still difficult to get the chair to roll without tipping the chair over. So I will probably have to purchase something else. The wheels are huge. Kind of funny looking. Really gives the chair extra height so make sure you'll be able to lower the chair quite a bit after getting the new wheels.

As they say use an appriately sized wrench to measure you're existing stem. I used a ruler and figured if there were different size stems that they'd be significantly different so I missed the fact that the stems on my castors are a mere 1/16" smaller than the stems on these (easy to miss if you're using a ruler) and of course even that little of a difference prevented them from fitting.

I recently replaced a smaller task chair with a larger executive chair in my den. I work at home so I spend a lot of time in the chair. The new chair is much heavier and wouldn't budge on the carpet while I was sitting in it. Even when I was out of the chair it was a little stiff to move.

These casters made a huge difference. I can roll around and move the chair making it much easier to use. The chair still doesn't roll like a chair on a hard floor but I didn't have the expectation that it would. These casters are twice the height of most casters so they look huge at first but I've gotten use to the look. They also lift your chair up 2" so I now use it at the lowest height setting instead of raising it a little. While these were bit expensive they did what I'd hoped for and they were worth it to me.

I'll add that we have very dense short pile carpeting in our den. It is much softer and a bit thicker than what I would call "office" carpeting but shorter and denser than the carpeting we have in the rest of the house.

I searched for these online. I just installed berber carpet in my pseudo-office in my home. The carpet is a tight-nap weave and I glued it to the concrete floor. Only problem, my office chair with stock casters was a pain-in-the-butt to roll about on. I felt that somebody had resolved this problem by making bigger casters, so I searched for them. Found them on Amazon. 40 bucks for 5 large casters. Simple to install. I have had them for a few weeks now, and really like them. Sturdily made, and silent. I consider these large casters a necessary investment if you spend any time in an office chair.

Just popped these onto my desk chair and I'm very happy to report they work quite well. My old wheels would dig into the carpet and the whole rug would move when I moved around in the chair. These generate MUCH less friction on the rug and the chair moves much easier. Not 100% perfect but a huge improvement so there's the 4 stars vs. 5 stars for the review.

The wheels definitely elevate the chair so be sure your chair can adapt to a seating surface 2 inches higher. These wheels are very large but I actually like the way they look on my chair - sort of high-tech moonbuggy. They work, are easy to install and look fine. I'm satisfied. Better than outrageous prices for chair pads that break after a year and need replacing. These wheels should last as long as my chair at any rate.

I was shocked when I received these LARGE casters. They have worked better than I could have hoped for. They roll easily on carpet, even with my heavy weight. I feel lucky to have found them. Well worth the cost.

I purchased these casters to apply to my new chair for use in the house I just moved into. The carpet in the room is a tight Berber carpet. Small stock casters did not roll well over it and I was afraid of ruining the carpet. I could not find a quality chair mat to use so I opted to try these out. They worked like a charm and also added the little bit of extra height to make my seating the perfect position as well. Installation was easy, just remove old casters and push these on in. They hold snug so I have no fear of them ever falling out... The casters seem to be very well made and heavy duty; I'm sure they will last longer than the rest of the chair will.

These wheels really do the trick for me. I was in the market for a mat but figured I'd give this a shot since the reviews were good. The wheels are much bigger than what my chair came with, after a while you kind of forget about it though and the chair looks normal with them installed.

I didn't want to risk cracking or constantly worrying about the condition of the mat, I would suggest you buy a set and see for yourself!

The chair rolls much easier now, by no means is it like hardwood flooring but with very little effort you can roll back from your desk and/or re-position your seat.
