Book Description

October 12, 2004
Never before have two top artists created such a multimedia work to honour the unique and steadfast bond between mother and child. Vocalist Celine Dion and photographer Anne Geddes conceived Miracle as a way to express something deep within their own hearts, and now both the experience and the outcome will delight music and visual art fans throughout the world. Miracle features more than 100 stunning new Geddes images. Each frame reflects the beauty, grace, and magic of both the photographer and her subject. Babies enfolded in blooms, mothers embracing the life flowering within: Anne's artistic eye captures it all. The exquisite images are wedded with the lyrics to all-new songs by Dion, created and performed on the book-accompanying CD in Celine's unmistakable international superstar style. It's easy to hear how her clear and melodious voice has captivated millions throughout her career. A DVD rounds out this artistic package, exploring the genesis of the Miracle project and taking its audience behind the scenes to witness the making of this memorable production. Celine's title track music video highlights the DVD. As a complement to this many-faceted experience, Sony Music will release its stand-alone Dion CD concurrent with the book's debut. AMP is delighted to play a role in bringing this important collaboration to readers and listeners, providing a crossover experience rivalled by few others. Mothers, grown children, grandmothers, friends, and gift givers everywhere will want to join this celebration of wonder.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Geddes's photographs of newborns poised on flowers and within sheer, stockinglike sacs have sold more than 15 million books in more than 50 countries; Dion's multi-octave vocal stylings are unmistakable, from the Titanic soundtrack and far beyond. Dion's attempts and eventual success in having a child were well documented on the supermarket racks; Geddes's success has been the stuff of magazine features for years. Thus this 11" × 13" collaboration has something of an inevitable feel to it, sharing its title with Dion's album of lullabies and apostrophes to children (such as John Lennon's "Beautiful Boy"). The book itself contains more than 100 new full-color Geddes photos, a number of which feature Dion (but not her son, Rene Charles, who was born in 2001 and is thus about a thousand days too old for the project) along with various lovely infants of various hues, and others with Geddes's signature newborn-as-a-flower's-center shots. Lyrics from the songs gently float among the images, which, aside from Dion, are familiar looking—and should meet with familiar levels of success.

More About the Author

One of the world's most respected photographers, Anne Geddes creates images that are iconic, award winning, internationally acclaimed, and beloved. Like no photographer before, her imagery singularly captures the beauty, purity, vulnerability, and preciousness of children, embodying her deeply held belief that each and every child must be protected, nurtured, and loved.

Born and raised in Queensland, Australia, Anne first professionally picked up a family camera in her mid-twenties, and self-taught, she began developing her signature style of simple structure and immediate visual impact. As a runaway New York Times and international bestselling author, Anne has subsequently changed the face of family and children's portraiture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miracle: A Beatiful Fusion of Image and Song, October 19, 2004
By
Austin Brown (Yorktown, IN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Miracle: A Celebration of New Life (Hardcover)
I must admit, I've never owned a Geddes book before, nor have I looked at them in the past. I bought this wonderful CD/DVD/Book combination purely for the sake of Celine Dion's involvement. If not for her, it would not be on my bookshelf. Yet, I find Celine is only featured in less than 25% of the book, and I still find myself adoring the whole of this confection.
In regards to the CD, in response to the reviewer who cited this as a rehashing of recordings from past Dion releases, it is nothing of the sort. With the exception of Track 8, "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", which regretably is the same recording found on the 1999 "All The Way..." compilation, the remainder of the songs found here are exclusive to this release. Believe me, I would know, I have the pleasure to own all Celine's releases in both English and French.
As far as the DVD goes, as a lone release it might seem a bit inadequite, lasting just over 21 minutes, yet as a companion to this magical book, it is utterly perfect, giving the viewer a gracious insite into the collaberation of Anne and Celine which brought forth this work which radiates both of these accomplished, respected ladies' devotion to children, and the Miracle that children are.
In looking at the book itself, there are no words to describe the depth of color, and clear detail, and respect each image has obviously been given. Each of these precious hopes for our future look fully at peace and beautifully positioned in each of the nearly hundred images found in this huge volume. In regards to the pictures featuring Dion, her own maternal instincts and love for these babies seems to radiate from the printed page. Yet when Celine is present, she seems to not in the least upstage the tiny beings she is suppoerting, instead your attention is first drawn to the innocent miracles she holds tenderly, and then to Dion herself.
This work is a purely perfect collaberation, and wonderful product for anyone. This is not only for the expecting mother, new mother, or grandmother, this is simply for anyone who loves life and the miracle of its beginning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful Tenderness!, November 8, 2004
By
This review is from: Miracle: A Celebration of New Life (Hardcover)
I have seen the mother's of these babies crying in the making of this book because the photo's were so beautiful and tender. If you think this book is baby abuse then you obiviously have never had a baby. If you did, then you would know that babies cry when they are hurt or uncomfortable. A baby is so peaceful while sleeping, shame on you for thinking otherwise. This CD is so precious it brought tears to my eyes, and I am not even a big Celine fan. Then again I am a mother to a beautiful baby boy so I am the perfect customer for this book. It's just wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Miracle mom!!, October 8, 2005
This review is from: Miracle: A Celebration of New Life (Hardcover)
I love this book not only because my child is featured in it with celine, but because it is so beautiful. Every baby in this book is under 6 weeks old. Completely new in this world, and 100% pure! So beautiful and wonderful. Celine being in this book made it that much more incredible. If you dont own an Anne Geddes book yet I suggest this one as the begining of your collection.
