About the Author
Dr. Liz Applegate, a nationally recognized expert on nutrition and performance and is a faculty member of the Nutrition Department at the University of California, Davis. Her undergraduate nutrition classes are the nation's largest with enrollments exceeding 2,000 annually. Recently she received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of California.
Along with her books on nutrition and heart health, Dr. Applegate has written over 300 articles for national magazines and is Nutrition Editor and Columnist for Runner's World magazine and the weekly nutrition columnist for OnHealth.com web magazine. Dr. Applegate is on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and the Health and Fitness Journal. She is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and a member of the Sports and Cardiovascular Nutritionists, a practice group of the American Dietetics Association. She is a frequent keynote speaker at industry, athletic and scientific meetings and has been a guest on more than 200 international, national and local radio and television shows, including Good Morning America as well as health segments on CNN and ESPN.
Dr. Applegate regularly appears as an expert in Better Homes and Gardens, Good House Keeping, Men's Health, Woman's Day, USA Today, Washington Post and other national print media.
She is a nutritionist for the National Cycling Team and nutrition consultant for NBA and NFL teams as well as professional and Olympic athletes.
