3.0 out of 5 stars Quick, light hearted read
This is really a 3 1/2 star book.
This book was a fun read. I have not read the first two books in the series but that didn't seem to matter much. At first I didn't know who the "miracle girls" were but this is explained later in the book so you could probably jump in at this book if you really wanted to. I loved Zoe and her friends. 5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Get By Without Your Friends, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Miracle Girls #3: A Little Help from My Friends: A Miracle Girls Novel (Paperback)
Zoe's character has somehow always stood in the background for me in this series. It's probably because she's soft spoken and shy which made me not really notice her too much in the other books. The other three Miracle girls have such loud personalities that they tend to overpower Zoe. Therefore I was glad that she got her own book with her own storyline so we could focus on her because I think her life was really interesting. Her parents are unlike the other girls and it's always fun to read about having to struggle with feelings between two boys. I liked Dean a lot and I thought he was a good match for Zoe.

In addition to Zoe's story is another subplot about their mentor Ms. Moore. I found this story to be extremely interesting because it involves a situation that many teacher fear will happen to them, where they try to do a good deed and instead become punished for it. The girls' determination to prove justice is admirable and even more astounding is the source of the unexpected help that comes their way.

One thing I've always liked about Anne and May's books is how well the story flows together. With some books, it is very obvious that there are two authors, as character's personalities or POV's will change when the authors switch writing. This can be very distracting as you feel pulled away from the novel and can be a big jolt. Luckily you never experience this in their books which is a huge plus.

As I've said before in the past, I'm a HUGE fan of Anne and May's books. They really know how to write for teens and they do it so extremely well. The stories are relatable and down to earth, showcase Christians in the real world without being preachy, and are able to reach to two audiences at the same time. Every teen girl should read their books (and adults who like YA too as well!) because not only are they good stories, but they speak to you as well. I cannot wait for Riley's story to come out next year to round out the series. VERY Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3rd book in Miracle Girls series is another enoyable read, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Miracle Girls #3: A Little Help from My Friends: A Miracle Girls Novel (Paperback)

A Little Help from My Friends by Anne Dayton & May Vanderbilt is the third book in the Miracle Girls series. This volume focuses on Zoe Fairchild, the red-headed, formerly chubby band geek with hippie parents has her world turned upside down when Dreamy and Ed, her folks, announce that they are getting a divorce. Her romance with neighbor Marcus is on the rocks as well after she is paired with new boy Dean on a history project, and the Miracle Girls are still working on restoring their beloved Ms. Moore to her former status as teacher and counselor at their school. Zoe is portrayed as a real teenage girl with all of her insecurities, mood swings, and worrying about making everyone around her happy. She gets so caught up in trying to fix her parents and her teacher, that she has a hard time seeing her own needs and desires. It's a great addition to a terrific series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read for Young Adults!!, October 9, 2009
This review is from: Miracle Girls #3: A Little Help from My Friends: A Miracle Girls Novel (Paperback)
Wow. This novel is a perfect read for those young girls who are growing up into beautiful young women and facing the daily struggles and growing pains.

I haven't had the fortune of reading Miracle Girls or Miracle Girls #2, but if they are like this book then they are worth reading!

Miracle Girls #3 tells the story of a young girl reaching her period of growing pains. She has a serious boyfriend, who lives right next door. Once a truly shy girl, she is becoming more popular at school. And then there's the new, handsome teenage boy at school who shows some interest in her. Will this new interest cause a rift between the girl and her serious boyfriend? And will troubles at home arrise and upset her world even more? She has friends, dubbed the Miracle Girls, she can turn to-or can she, because they seem to be having troubles of their own?

Find out in this exciting new book from two very talented authors! May and Anne know how to bring characters together in a story that really tells of how teenage girls are really struggle in today's society. This book really shows a lesson learned: The life can be turned upside down in a heartbeat but with the faith and love and help of God and some really great friends, growing pain troubles don't seem so bad!!

I highly reccomend this book to all those young readers out there, especially if they are having growing pain troubles and need to be lifted up!

Great work!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Review: A Little Help From My Friends, A Miracle Girls Novel, October 3, 2009
This review is from: Miracle Girls #3: A Little Help from My Friends: A Miracle Girls Novel (Paperback)
A delightful story of a shy teenage girl facing some family, school, relationship, and even financial issues. Drawing on her faith, she discovers how to overcome her shyness and make some bold decisions.

In Anne Dayton and May Vanderbilt's newest novel, A Little Help From My Friends: A Miracle Girls Novel #3, the Zoe Fairchild is the focus. She's the shy one. The often unnoticed one who looses a little weight over the summer and discovers the meaning of friendship in a variety of ways.

Zoe is the youngest of the Miracle Girls. Her parents are from the `Jesus Movement' of the '60's and '70's as indicated by their names: Dreamy (the mom) and Ed (the dad), who insist that Zoe call them by their first names.

Zoe sets off on a mission to save her parents marriage and reinstate one of her favorite teachers dismissed for unknown reasons.

With all this on her mind, she encounters a new boy in school, a New Yorker named Dean. Having been assigned his partner on a school project, she finds her relationship with her boyfriend Marcus `challenging'. New Yorkers are not known for their shyness.

All three of these major events force Zoe deeper into her faith as she will now have to overcome her shyness if she is to accomplish her goals. Together with her Miracle Girls friends, Zoe learns that she can make it, with a little help from her friends.

This was quite an adorable story. Reading it made me think of my high school days and the teenage angst I felt. I loved the wide mix of characters such as Gus, Mrs. Lovechuck, and of course the horses named Dox and Mama Cass.

A very enjoyable read. I'd highly recommend it for any teenage girl.

4.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, February 27, 2010
This review is from: Miracle Girls #3: A Little Help from My Friends: A Miracle Girls Novel (Paperback)
A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS is the third installment of the MIRACLE GIRLS series. Here are three things that the book's narrator, Zoe, will face:

1. Her parents' love for each other is on the fritz. Could this marriage that would seem to last forever already be cut short?

2. Two boys are vying for Zoe's interest - that's right, count them, TWO! First, there is her boy-next-door boyfriend, Marcus, who isn't enjoying all this attention that Zoe is getting. And then there is Dean, the new guy who has more guts then most of the guys at the school... even Marcus. You can already smell the trouble when more than one boy is involved!

3. Along with the other three Miracle Girls, all four will try to get justice for their teacher, Ms. Moore. However, they are going to need some serious help. Who knew that help can come from the most unlikeliest place.

Ana had to cope with moving to a new school, Christine had to move on along with her father, and now Zoe must deal with problems at home, at school, and in her heart.

With a completely new look, it's time for Zoe to shine. And even when the lights begin to dim just a little, it's good that she has a little help from her friends. Three words to describe this installment: heartwarming, powerful, and inspiring!

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick, light hearted read, October 15, 2009
This review is from: Miracle Girls #3: A Little Help from My Friends: A Miracle Girls Novel (Paperback)
Each girl is unique and has to deal with their own issues yet they are always there for each other. I think this is a story that many young girls can relate to as some of the characters break up with their first loves or suffer their first heart break. I also really enjoyed Dean's character although I wish we could have seen a bit more of him and his life instead of him just being the love interest of Zoe. I felt like there is a lot there to like about him. The one minor detail I disliked was how easily the issue with the lawsuit against one of the teachers was resolved. Throughout the book it seemed to be a major issue that seemed unresolvable and then at the end all of a sudden all was fine. It seemed to abrupt. Other than that this is a quick, fun read for the teen age girl.
