Should Always Be In Print,
By A Customer
This review is from: Miracles: Poems by Children of the English Speaking World (A Fireside book) (Library Binding)
I was given this book in 1968 and it remains one of my favorites. Why? Because until very recently it was the only book of poetry written by children that I could find. As a child I loved reading poems written by other children. The language and metaphors sounded real to me, as in "I hear the drummers strike the sky" to describe "Thunder". I continue to be touched and inspired by the poignant clarity found in the poems of "Miracles"."Miracles" is a wonderful book for anyone who enjoys the poet voice. It should ALWAYS be in print. Children need to know and have such examples of their own muse. And adults need to listen and be reminded of their own.

Miracles indeed!,
By David Saltaire "David Saltiare" (San Jose CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Miracles: Poems by Children of the English- Speaking World (Hardcover)
I picked up a copy of this book a couple of years ago in a used bookstore and fell in love with it. I was frankly amazed by some of the selections. There are many poems of beauty and natural elegance and some that are quite amusing.Of course, it's an uneven collection. Some of the are rather simplistic and obvious, about what you would expect from the average child. But a page or two later you are reading something that makes your eyes mist over and your heart beat a little faster. All-in-all this is a wonderful tribute to the creative instinct in children. As someone who writes poetry I keep this book nearby when I'm looking for inspiration or need reminding of the power of simple, heartfelt words that can convey so much.
