5.0 out of 5 stars The Miracles of Jesus, May 29, 2006
This review is from: The Miracles of Jesus and the Theology of Miracles (Paperback)
This comprehensive study of the miracles of Jesus completes Latourelle's three part presentation on the credibility of Christianity. In Finding Jesus through the Gospels (1979) he offers an historical approach to the origins of Christianity, answering the question: Is Jesus identifiable as an historical reality? In Man and His Problems in Light of Jesus Christ (1983) he offered a hermeneutic of the human person, responding to the question: Do Jesus and his message answer the radical question of the meaning of human existence? Here he completes his hermeneutical study by answering the question: Is Jesus identifiable as God-among-us?

Latourelle looks first at the problems encountered in approaching and understanding miracles. In the second part, he studies in detail the historicity of the miracles of Jesus found in the Gospels. Finally he offers a theological perspective on miracles.

Placing the study of miracles in the context of Jesus as the primary sign of God-among-us, Latourelle develops an understanding of the miracles as "the manifold extension of (Jesus') epiphany as the Son in the midst of humankind...the erruption of God into human history."
