Jeff Doles has done a masterful job of relating historical facts in a compendium that is actually both easy to read and impacting. He clearly debunks the theory that miracles and manifestations of the Holy Spirit ceased when the apostles died or when the New Testament canon was completed. This book is well worth reading. You will be amazed at how much was going on in the church, even during what we call the "Dark Ages." JEFF DOLES is a Christian writer, blogger and Bible teacher in the Tampa, FL area. He and his wife, Suzanne, are the founders of Walking Barefoot Ministries. Their desire is to help you take the next step of faith in your walk with the Lord, live in the reality of His kingdom, and experience the presence and power of God in your life.

Jeff received the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of six and grew up in the Christian and Missionary Alliance church. After high school, he studied for the ministry at Florida Bible College, and graduated with a B.A. in Biblical Education. While at college, he met Suzanne, who was also a student there. They have been married since 1978 and have two wonderful children: Michael and Sara. They are active members of Revival Outreach Center, Dover, FL.

Suzanne came to an active faith in Jesus Christ in high school and from there went on to Bible college, where she attended for three years. In the Summer of 2000, she experienced a divine deliverance which released her from deep-seated fear. Since then, her faith has increased dramatically and she gives testimony to the healing power of God, on the theme of moving from fear to faith. Suzanne's faith, insight and support are an invaluable part of Walking Barefoot Ministries.

ABOUT fifteen years ago I asked the Lord to teach me about faith. Now, don't get me wrong. I grew up in a Christian home, received the Lord Jesus Christ at a very early age, and even went to Bible college, where I studied all the major doctrines of "the faith" (along with many minor ones). Even learned about apologetics and how to "defend the faith."

But something was missing. I would see people who had nowhere near the Christian background or Biblical training that I had, but they knew how to grab hold of faith, step out on faith and accomplish great things with their faith. I envied them. Though I knew Jesus, and I understood and appreciated faith as a doctrinal matter, I did not know how to use my faith in the very practical way these folks did.

That's when I asked the Lord, and He began to take me through the "School of Practical Faith." He introduced me to what faith actually is, where it comes from, how it grows and develops and gets strong, and how it operates. He revealed the power of words -- His words -- in my mouth. He showed me that faith requires love and love requires faith. He also taught me how faith partners with patience and develops expectation. He instructed me in the absolute necessity of forgiving others and how that sets my faith free. In short, He taught me the dynamics of faith.

That's what my books and blogs are about. As God has been teaching me, I have been taking notes and sharing with others what I have learned. It is a work in progress, one that will take me the rest of my life, because, now that I've learned how to use my faith in practical ways, the Bible has become even more vibrant and exciting. I'm trading my thoughts for God's, believing His Word for all its worth (and rejoicing at its infinite value). And I'm discovering a host of life-changing, world-changing truths -- things I had never noticed before I learned how to apply my faith.

I am thrilled to no end to have in my hands a wonderful book written by Jeff Doles, "Miracles and Manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the History of the Church,"

This book provides documentation of the operation of spiritual gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit throughout the history of Christianity, just what I have been seeking for a couple of years.

As a Spirit-filled pastor of a Southern Baptist Church, I often encounter people who have been misled by erroneous doctrines and misconceptions about the Holy Spirit and His present day ministry in and through Christians. While this book does not present an argument against Cessationism; it does present a concise record of healings, miracles, and manifestations of spiritual gifts throughout the centuries since the ascension of Christ. There is abundant testimony given to demonstrate that the Holy Spirit has operated through both ordinary believers and ministers of the gospel when they dared to believe the promises of Christ in the Word of God.

My heart soars like a hawk as I read of the mighty manifestations of the Spirit in the lives of His people through the ages. I just read through a section relating multiple incidents of the word of knowledge in the ministry of Charles Spurgeon and of miracles, healings, trances and visions, and people falling out under the power of God in the ministry of John Wesley.

This is an excellent resource for any minister who hungers for the power of God to be demonstrated in his life and ministry.

Without doubt, this book will stir your heart, enlarge your vision for the work of Christ, and encourage you to trust God for miracles and healings today.

Jeff's book is a historical look at the gifts of the Holy Spirit as they have been manifested through the church throughout the centuries since the ascension of Christ. There have been a number of books in this genre, but Doles has quite a bit of research that I have not found in other books.

Anyone who still holds to the utterly false belief that miracles ceased sometime after the last apostle died need to read Jeff's book. The history of the church proves that the doctrine of cessationism is an utterly false teaching.

Jeff's book is a great contribution to the body of Christ. I highly recommend it.
