At the heart of the Omni S8 is Mirage's patented Elliptical Surround Technology. With conventional woofers, outward and inward cone movement is never the same because the surround flexes differently as it moves. Due to the shape of the Elliptical Surround, the cone movement in either direction is identical, resulting in no distortion. Another problem with conventional subwoofers is surround dimpling. Dimples that occur on normal subwoofers radiate in and out of phase, causing distortions at all listening levels. The more the cone moves, the more the surround dimples. With Mirage's exclusive, patented, rib design, the ribs either expand or contract based on their position and the position of the cone. The expansion and contraction of the ribs eliminate any dimpling that can occur, thereby eliminating the distortion that dimpling creates.

The Omni S8 features an 8-inch woofer and 100-watt RMS internal amplifier. With a frequency response down to 27 Hz, the Titanium Deposit Hybrid woofer with Elliptical Surround performs like a much larger subwoofer. The down-firing port of the Omni S8 increases output without port noise, using the floor as a loading surface to augment the yield of the subwoofer. The Omni S8 delivers natural and lifelike sound that will not only compliment Mirage's line of speakers, but will also compliment any existing home theater system.

Integrating the Omni S8 into your existing setup couldn't be any easier. The subwoofer features high-level inputs and outputs, as well as low-level inputs that include a direct input for seamless home theater integration. Level, frequency, and phase controls, all of which are found on the front panel of the subwoofer, make any adjustments extremely simple. Rear inputs include high- and low-level (including LFE) connections, as well as power-mode selection.

The Omni S8 measures a compact 14.6 x 11.7 x 15.3 (HxWxD), allowing you to easily integrate it into almost any room's decor, and is designed with an elegant platinum finish.

I live in an apartment so I couldn't use a big sub (I wanted the S12), and I wanted clean sound. I researched tons of smaller subs and I kept coming back to the S8 so I decided to give it a shot. My setup is mainly for movies and it consists of two Energy C3's for front left and right, Energy XL-C100 for center, and bose 161 for rears (soon being replaced with mirage omnisat micros). Mirage and Energy are manufactured by same company. This sub fits in nicely. I have crossover set at 60Hz and the sound is clean. The level can be turned up pretty high before there is any distortion.

Love the sub so far and it is not even broke in yet. It adds that extra punch I was missing from my movies. It can shake the walls pretty good too for an 8" sub. And why they call this platinum, I have no idea, it is like a dark gunmetal gray. Matches well with anything black i.e. not an eyesore.

I can hardly say enough good about this sub. I have replaced an older Bose Lifestyle 5 Series 2. I read good things about Mirage and even had a demo of this sub at a local high end retailer. I hooked it up and I am more pleased than I thought I would be. It can thump the house if you want it to. I like that you can hear bass and not just feel it. It's a very musical sub. Even in a large room, I think this would do the trick.

I recently rediscovered my vinyl and CD collections after many years of being too busy to listen. I bought this sub to supplement my Wharfedale Diamonds which are a similarly great bargain. I also purchased an inexpensive Harman Kardon receiver to power the lot. Let me say, I have owned several subs over the years. I've had some that reached deeper and played louder but none that were more musical than this one. The bass is powerful and tight... a perfect complement to the sound of the Wharfedales. Build quality is exceptional - much more elegant than the HSU Research sub I use on my home theater set up. This sub is also quite compact compared to most.. but don't let the small size trick you into thinking it won't perform.

I purchased mine from Vanns thru Amazon. Their service was exceptional. Hurry, do not let this incredible bargain pass you by. There are lots of good subs out there but none that I auditioned came close to this one for sound, build quality and overall value!
