5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Speaker System
I bought this with the Denon 3311 receiver and really like the sound and size of both. The speakers are small and discrete, yet provide a very open feel without much coloration. The speakers not only sound good, they are compact and well built. The "floating" tweeter makes the sound open and airy, under a grill cover that is held in place magnetically - very cool...

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware...
After doing some research via reading reviews and specs, I decided on this system to replace my anemic book shelf speakers.
Imagine my surprise after I set them up, put on some familiar music and....blahhhhh.

If you are looking for a "bright" sounding system, this is NOT it. Also, if you have a lower wattage amplifier, you might want to reconsider. I...

I bought this with the Denon 3311 receiver and really like the sound and size of both. The speakers are small and discrete, yet provide a very open feel without much coloration. The speakers not only sound good, they are compact and well built. The "floating" tweeter makes the sound open and airy, under a grill cover that is held in place magnetically - very cool design. The bass module is small, but provides a large presence without being boomy - definitely a plus. The wife factor approves since she doesn't notice the speakers, except when I plan them loud.

The only nit I have is that the small speakers use spring clips, and does not have the option to use banana plugs or twist down terminals for the speaker wire. I guess it may be hard to add these features in such a small form factor.

All in all, great sound, great design, and great size for a home theatre. Nice job Mirage!

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome for Sound, not great for Bass, November 15, 2010
This review is from: Mirage MX 5.1-Channel Miniature Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Black) (Electronics)
These speakers are AWESOME. Very loud and superb for surround sound and fills a large room with sound. The only negative is that the Subwoofer is pretty weak. It does not fill the room, and I have the volume all the way up and even turned volume up on my receiver. As I mentioned before, I did put this in a "large room", so I think that is the problem. In a smaller room this sub would be great. However, the spearkers can go in any room as they provide awesome sound and clarity. Therefore, I would rate the Speakers, sound and appearance a 5+, but subwoofer a 2 or 3, but again its probably due to my room size. If you have a small room or don't like a lot of bass this is fine, but for explosions and bass in a "large room" you need to add a bigger sub, then you will be ECSTATIC with these little speakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Things Comes in Small Package, April 27, 2010

In this scenario great things do come in small packages. When I hooked this surround sound system to my Denon AVR-75 the sound was incredible. The little subwoofer had massive bass, and for those who doesn't like a lot of bass there is a volume control on the back of the subwoofer for your preference. The satellite speakers is phenomenal. Watching Transformer on the scorpion robot scene was awesome. It felt like I was sucked into the movie with its crisp clear sound. Overall, for the price this set of speakers are very well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listening Outside the Box, January 26, 2011
By
This review is from: Mirage MX 5.1-Channel Miniature Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Black) (Electronics)
The technology to provide very high-quality, accurate sound has existed for some time. Many manufacturers produce a product that has nearly perfect specifications and sounds good. The problem for me has always been that I am well aware of listening to individual speakers. The sound comes from specific locations. Let's face it; with 99% of speakers, you're listening to boxes. For decades, speakers have been called transparent if they don't "color" the sound too much. One may be better than another, but it is still a box. Mirage speakers are truly transparent, meaning there is little sensation of listening to speakers and much more an illusion of hearing an actual performance. The MX speakers produce a huge sound stage, which extends far beyond where they are placed in the room.

When listening to stereo using all the speakers with the "extended stereo" mode of the home-theater receiver enabled, the distribution of sound depends upon how the recording was mixed. There is seldom just an old-fashioned stereo sound, though. When watching a Blu-ray with DTS-HD Master Audio, it is like really being there. Even DTS on a DVD that was well recorded can be amazing.

My living room is approximately 12'x20', and there is plenty of bass. It can be felt as well as heard.

The Mirage MX speakers are very nice looking, appear to be well made, and their small size makes them easy to place in the room. Placement is not critical; they can even be attached near the ceiling if they are mounted upside down.

These are real winners. My listening enjoyment has been greatly enhanced since they replaced my old boxes.

These speakers have great sound and are extremely small and compact.
I like them better than the Bose speakers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing sound from such a small package but with limits, May 5, 2011
This review is from: Mirage MX 5.1-Channel Miniature Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Black) (Electronics)
These loudspeakers are powered by a Denon 1911 and were put in a room that is approximately 16x14x8. So as you can see its a middle of the range system in a normal sized room. Now on to the loudspeakers! I have to say I am impressed with their performance. They produce clear bright highs and overall sound quite good. Personally though I found the MX speaker to sound thin being used as the center channel. It produced the voices okay but it was just missing something, especially on male voices, which I think was from the fact the speaker is just so small. This of course is also their greatest attribute. Their size is simply unobtrusive and can easily be hidden into any decor. Their diminutive size combined with the forgiveness of the omni technology it is the most decor friendly system i can imagine. Mirage definitely has a different sound signature than most speakers so you really should listen prior to buying.
Ultimately to address the thinness of the center channel I ended up adding some additional Mirage loudspeakers since my amp can do 7.1. I purchased the OS3-CC for the center channel and added OS3-SATs for fronts, pushing the MX's out to the 4 surround positions. This made a noticeable improvement on voices as well as for music (but left me with one extra MX). The drawback of course is the OS3 line is considerably larger in size but around a 50 inch tv the larger speakers look fine.
Speaking of music the MX's do okay but definitely leave something to be desired. It suffers from that same thinness the center channel did.

Pro's
- Super small and high gloss black finish is stylish
- Excellent highs and upper mids
- Included sub is adequate and easy to hide
- Easy to fit into any decor without being obtrusive
- Omni technology fills the room with sound very nicely without being as 'picky' as standard speakers for imaging

Con's
- Not great for a primary music system
- As a center channel voices sound a bit thin
- If you have a large room these speakers will struggle to fill it I would imagine
- Sub could be a bit larger, but again this system is designed to fit a small/med application

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it but subwoofer gone kaput., March 18, 2011
This review is from: Mirage MX 5.1-Channel Miniature Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Black) (Electronics)
The sound was great, it's comparable if not much better than the 2,000 bucks speaker system. However, my subwoofer gone kaput after 2 days of use and that is after using it for 10 minutes. It turns out a bad circuit board.

I returned it to BB and replaced it with Definitive ProCinema 600.

If the subwoofer didn't break down, I will still have it and rate it 5 stars.

Small size, big sound exactly what I was looking for. Having said that,
cosmetically, on the wall they look odd. The seller and delivery get an A+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, September 16, 2011
This review is from: Mirage MX 5.1-Channel Miniature Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Black) (Electronics)
I love music. I especially love rhythmic with lots of jazz and a gentle bass. Love fusion music too. And boy was I delighted with this system. I bought a Denon AVR 1912 and these speakers. Best buy has them for $750 with their coupon. Should have bought these from Amazon which sells for about $130 less now!! Anyway, it turned out one of the speakers' cable peg would not allow the cable wire to be inserted so I got an exchange from Best Buy. Now everything works fine. The music sounds awesome. Limited distortion. Can hear ALL the instruments. Crisp high frequency sounds. The subwoofer is the cutest thing I have seen for a while! A very good system. No wonder CNET rates it number 1!

We have had these speakers for a while now. We had nice floor speakers before, but the sound quality on these are just plain AWESOME. No matter what the volume level, you hear the voices clearly in movies. And for music, it fills the room. We are using them in a room that is 19x28 feet. I have nothing bad to say at all about this product. Very Happy
