3.0 out of 5 stars so-so
I've had these speakers for just over 6 months now and have found them to be adequate, but nothing special. I have them paired with a Pioneer VSX-19AHK receiver (Cnet's top choice for quite some time now) and haven't heard anything spectacular from these speakers. The subwoofer is probably the best part of the deal - it can definitely throw down. The speakers are small...

After using the Mirage speakers for hometheater and music listening, I have to give it high marks. I'm slightly hard of hearing and the clarity of the center and front speakers have helped my listening considerably. The hometheater experience has been nothing short of fantastic. The omnipolar speakers and the subwoofer fill my 20ft x 20ft with a 17 ft cathedral ceiling with sound that imerses you in the action of movies your viewing. I was concerned that the small speakers wouldn't be adequate for our family room because of its size however, the fact that they are omnipolar seems to have made the difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, Crisp, Clear Audio, February 2, 2011
This review is from: Mirage Nanosat 5.1 Small High-Performance 5.1 Speaker System (Electronics)
What can I say about these speakers? Wow. We had a couple of JBL front speakers before, that were about 4 feet tall, good quality, along with a sub-woofer that was about 50% larger than the sub on this set. We wanted to upgrade to a surround system, and get rid of the larger speakers. We thought about going with the Bose satellite system, until we read some of the reviews. We eventually found these, and are certainly glad that we did.

I left the JBLs hooked up to see the difference, and what a difference! The sound is much more crisp and clean in the Mirage speakers. You wouldn't know that this amazing sound is coming from these small speakers. These speakers are very well constructed (they feel heavy for their size), and pack a powerful punch.

The only complaint I have is with the design if you're going to be mounting them on the walls. The bottom is completely flat and ugly. We only mounted one on the wall (were able to place the others in bookcases, etc...) and we had to turn that one upside down because the other way would have made it look strange.

All things considered, we would certainly buy this again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good do-it-all speaker system, November 2, 2010

Extremely versatile set of speakers...superb build quality and diminutive size made them ideal for my living room set-up. Sound quality is very good considering the size of these speakers. The omni-directional sound is excellent for movies, and the speakers can be turned up quite loud without distortion. For music, these speakers create a room-filling sound stage that sounds great, although purists may find the reflected sound technology a bit soft.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers, but some issues..., September 13, 2011

This review is from: Mirage Nanosat 5.1 Small High-Performance 5.1 Speaker System (Electronics)
Bought these at a great price ($349 Deal of the Day) and actually had a chance to set them up side by side with my old speakers. No comparison. Granted, the ones they were replacing weren't awesome or anything, but these really pump the sound out, even when I don't use the subwoofer! My only caveats to the buyer are these: 1. Mounting can be a bit of a pain if you have wall mounted speaker holders (I had to kinda improvise), and check the manual to make sure you're hanging them right, they actually have height requirements! 2. I wish this system had a dedicated center channel speaker (I had to lay the center on it's side to fit it on my entertainment unit). Other than that, these are great speakers..but try to make sure you're not paying more than $350-$400 for the set. Then they will be a good value for the money. Hope this helps you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Some pretty impressive stuff for sure!, July 19, 2011

This review is from: Mirage Nanosat 5.1 Small High-Performance 5.1 Speaker System (Electronics)
After reading mixed reviews I decided to take a shot at this system. It really makes a difference to have the sound come from everywhere rather than a head on speaker where if you close your eyes you can easily tell where the sound is coming from.

You would think the speakers are farther apart than they are with a wide stereo feel. TV and Blu Ray Movies are great, and when I put my receiver in the stereo mode to hear dialog (I'm a 57 year old former rocker so my hearing is shot) The high end it truely amazing, I now don't have to turn on closed captioning because of low level muddy mumbling dialog. That alone made this system worth it.

The design with the satalite speakers having a 360 sound field dramatically helps fuse the void in other satalite systems between the high end Satalite speakers and the ultra low end of the Sub woofer. Very tight sounding sub and you can set the cross over point to create a seamless wall of sound. I have played some DVD concerts pretty loud vertually concert level like John Mayer's Live at the Beacon and it's as close as I've ever come to the feel of a live concert except with alot higher quality sound.

I don't have a massive room this system is in but not the slightest hint of break up or distortion. It sounds to me that when you crank it up these speakers seem to like it. It reminds me of a 4 way JBL P.A. you can't believe the huge frequency range really impressive!

If this system shows up at the killer GOLD BOX price again I'll probably buy another set for my bed room. I need to go back and read the reviews of people who didn't like it cause if you know how to set the cross over point correctly this is a killer set up for the price.

The speakers are small and I did get them for under $600 so that was nice, but they're still lacking in sound quality.

Primarily, the center channel just isn't there. I live in a 1000 sq/ft apartment with a fairly small living room and still find myself cranking up the volume on Blu-ray discs at times because the voices are washed out by the front speakers. I would definitely recommend getting a dedicated center channel on top of this package to see if it can do better. It's no surprise that there is actually a matching center speaker that you can buy separately - the Mirage Nanosat Cc Small High-Performance Center Speaker (High Gloss Black.

My other BIG complaint are the "mirage" stickers on each of the cube speakers. For this price, it would have been nice to get a quality emblem. Instead, you'll find that the "mirage" emblem is nothing more than a sticker. Within a couple of months, the corners of the stickers started lifting up and now some of them are all but falling off.

For $800, you can do more with your money.

I am so glad that the buyer of my old house wanted me to leave my wall mounted speakers. Otherwise, I would've never stepped up to these gems! I love everything about them. They really fill up my new living room with lush sound. After using them for several months I haven't found any negatives. I'm pleasantly surprised by the compact bass module... haven't needed to hook up my dual 12" subs to my 1200W sub amp. I feel the value is exceptional for the quality of the system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice small system, June 18, 2011

This review is from: Mirage Nanosat 5.1 Small High-Performance 5.1 Speaker System (Electronics)
This is a good system for the $349 deal of the day price I paid. I'm replacing a complete JBL 5.1 system that sounds amazing but is too large for a small apt.

Looks- this set looks very nice with the piano black and brushed aluminum

Sound- The sound is nearly perfect for movies. You really don't need a 7.1 channel system when the speakers spread the sound as well as these do.

For stereo music you can tell there's a hole in the mid-range around 100hz-120hz. I crossed the woofer over at 120hz but it doesn't quite get that high and the nanosats can't go that low. Most would never know it's missing anything but if you listen to a lot of music and are kind of an audiophile you'll notice. That's the price you pay for having small satellites and a subwoofer type system.

The woofer is an updated version of the S8. It has volume and low pass cross over knobs as well as a phase switch that the earlier model didn't have. The sub is on the small side but will easily go low enough to rattle things off the shelf and have your neighbors upset in an apt.

I noticed the first nanosat I unwrapped had scratches and pry marks on the front and rear of the speaker so I'll see what can be done to replace it.

all in all it's the best sounding satellite/sub system I've heard, far better than Bose systems.

Upper, mid range & Bass is very good. Small speakers, but they fill the entire room. Got great reviews on CNET and I'm very happy with these. Great value for the price you pay.

5.0 out of 5 stars After comparing a much more expensive system..., February 11, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mirage Nanosat 5.1 Small High-Performance 5.1 Speaker System (Electronics)
So I got a 5.1 surround speaker system from another well known company that cost just under $1000. I was happy with the sound clarity but really could hear specific speakers firing but not blending. My set-up is in the corner of the room and faces diagonally, this may be why I couldn't get that full seamless surround feel. I previously considered the Mirage Nanosat 5.1 system but figured the more expensive set must be much better, right...? Wrong! After much research and learning more about how the mirage speakers are designed to be omnidirectional I returned the other brand and gave Mirage a shot. They are GREAT! Great price, Great looks, and the sound quality is outstanding while filling the room superbly. The balance is what I love the most. I don't feel like I need to be in the center of the room to get balanced surround sound.

One down side in comparison to the other system is the sub woofer. I found that I had to tweak the mirage system for a bit to get the sound I wanted where the other system sounded great out of the box. Not a big deal though considering all the plus sides I got with the mirage system.
