Book Description

Schiffer Book for Collectors May 1, 2004
Miriam Haskell began selling especially beautiful costume jewelry in 1926, and her company continues to the present. Today, the jewelry that bears her name is highly sought after and the prices keep spiraling up. Claims abound that this is a Miriam Haskell, but is it a Miriam Haskell? This important new book gives collectors the key information to make intelligent buying decisions. It provides specific details on the art, design, style, materials, construction, and signatures, all vital to the identification and dating of Haskell jewelry. It also dispels many of the myths that allow wanna-bes and fakes to flourish. Over 600 beautiful color photographs display the most extensive collection of Haskell jewelry ever brought together. The jewelry is categorized by designer, specifying notable eras. The text provides notations on innovations, style preferences, and in-depth descriptions pointing to key Haskell identifiers. Readers, from casual admirers to serious collectors and dealers, will find in this comprehensive book the essential information and breathtaking pictures they seek.

Not just a pretty picture book but a work of serious investigation and scholarship. By far the best book on Miriam Haskell jewelry, filled with n beautiful photographs AND a treasure trove of never before known information. For every level of collector. Extremely helpful in identifying older unsigned Haskell pieces. A top notch piece of work. I have well over 80 books on vintage costume jewelry and this ranks as one of the best!

This review is from: Miriam Haskell Jewelry (Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Hardcover)
A superb book for the new or even seasoned Haskell collector. The photography is first class, the selection of pieces is spectacular and the descriptions are a pleasure to read. This book is worth its weight in gold for the knowledge it provides in assiting you in recognizing authentic Haskell pieces, dating them and placing a value on them. It has set a new standard in Collector books that hopefully the other writers will soon follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New "Must-Have" for Costume Jewelry Collectors, October 27, 2004
This review is from: Miriam Haskell Jewelry (Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Hardcover)
If you love Haskell jewelry, you need this book. In fact, you need this book if you love costume jewelry of any kind. It is thoroughly researched, beautifully photographed, and with exactly the kind of information for which jewelry collectors hunger.

Do you want a coffee table book full of beautiful pictures? Here it is. Need a price guide to Miriam Haskell jewelry? Here - with real insight and useful information about what makes pieces more or less valuable. Do you want to know more about the history of the company and of the people who made it? There is a wealth of carefully researched information, much of it never before published.

Best of all, for fans of Haskell jewelry, is the detailed information about construction techniques, designs, lines, beads, findings, and all the details that allow us to separate the wheat from the chaff, and genuine Miriam Haskell jewelry from the mountains of lookalikes and wannabees.

This is a masterpiece of a jewelry reference book. If only they were all this good!
