5.0 out of 5 stars My kitchen is incomplete without a Foley food mill!
I was raised with a foley food mill in the kitchen. Mom bought me one when I first started housekeeping, as I did my daughter and Son also. The old ones rusted up, but I see now they are made of stainless steel, which is great.I never put mine in a dishwasher, but my daughter did without thinking, therefore it got rusty. I ordered two, as they are hard to find, a little...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mirro Stainless Steel Foley Food Mill 2 QT.
I replaced my original 35 year old Foley Mill with the new model. On the plus side, it is greatly improved by the fact it is now made in stainless stain. On the minus side, the handle is no longer solid but rather an "open" handle and I find it now difficult to hold. If the new handle would not be a problem for anyone else, than I would give it 5 stars.

I ordered two, as they are hard to find, a little on the expensive side, but Amazon gave the best price. The new models are dishwater safe, and will never rust as they are made of stainless steel. Great product, Iwouldn't be able to make cranberry sauce, applesauce, seed tomatoes, canning etc., without it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to basics, June 18, 2008
Much to my surprise these old Foley food mills are still being made! This beauty is made out of stainless steel. Solid, easy to care for and gorgeous. The 2 1/2 quart one I have fits a smaller prep bowl, but I knew that it would when I ordered it. The sweep arm on the bottom comes off for cleaning with an easy twist of the nut that attaches it. The blade inside the food mill is easy to operate and to clean. It runs smoothly over the grate giving you a nicely textured dish. The rotating knob on the handle that turns the blade is a real plus, no blisters. I will admit to using a kitchen towel to hold the handle attached to the food mill because I prefer a solid handle rather than the loop style this food mill has. This is the kind of appliance our grandmothers and mothers used and we all remember their great potato soup. When you get back to basics, you want something easy to use, good looking and easy to clean AND that stores in a cupboard rather than its own garage. So, start with a Foley Food Mill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, with a surprise, November 13, 2009

This review is from: Mirro Foley 2-Quart Stainless Steel Food Mill (Kitchen)
This is my first food mill.

I bought the 2 qt model, thinking the 4qt model
was too big. I like the solid construction and
attractive appearance. The mill works pretty well.
I've made applesauce and "squeezed" pomegranate
juice. The 2 qt size is fine for those two uses.
I could see how the 4 qt model is more appropriate
if you do heavy duty amounts, such as for canning.

I knew in advance that the wire handle is not
ideal. I would agree that it is a bit uncomfortable.
Since you are holding it for maybe 5 minutes, it's
only a minor annoyance.

The one surprise I had was...on the 4 qt model,
and on competing models, the grates are removable
and interchangeable. For the 2 qt model, the
grate is built in and can't be removed. This
makes it harder to clean. I suspect this also
limits the uses for the 2 qt model, although for
my uses this hasn't affected me. If I had realized
that the grate was non-changeable, I probably
would have bought the 4 qt model, just to have
a more versatile food mill.

Overall, it's a solid product that is good for
light to medium duty, or small to medium amounts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Food Mill, March 21, 2006

I purchased this mill after seeing it at my friend's home. My most important reason for wanting the mill is to make applesauce. It functions beautifully. I've not used it for other purposes as yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for tomato sauce.., March 9, 2009
This review is from: Mirro Foley 2-Quart Stainless Steel Food Mill (Kitchen)
I bought this product hoping it was similar to one I used years ago to strain tomato sauce. The strainer on this one is too fine to make tomato sauce. It takes too long to process and too much of the tomatoes goes to waste.. Don't buy it to make tomato sauce..

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful gadget but Handle Needs Work, December 16, 2008
This review is from: Mirro Foley 2-Quart Stainless Steel Food Mill (Kitchen)
As others' reviews mentioned, the handle is downright uncomfortable to use. I used a pot holder, but even that did not do the trick exactly.

I am delighted with the mill, which is so much like the Foley I have used for maybe 45 years or more! The Foley one was NOT stainless, and showed it. But it had a good handle. I LOVE the shiny washability of this new one, and will find a workaround for the handle problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foley Food Mill Performance, March 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This Foley Food mill is a replacement for one that just broke after many, many years of hard work. We use it mainly to make applesauce. Our old one broke as we were processing the last of the Fall apples. We did not hesitate a moment in going right to the internet and purchaseing another one. This is a product that does what it says and is well made. We could not do without one!

If you make applesauce, baby food or a variety of other food items, this food mill is worth its weight! Be sure not to lose the bottom piece that holds the arm onto the pot. You will enjoy using this easy-to-use mill.
