Review
What a delightful book Terri Branson, Jackie Wilks and illustrator Chet Taylor have created! The story of Mirror, the carousel horse, is great fun to read. The pictures expertly capture the narrative. The authors have provided us more than just an interesting tale, however. In Mirror, we see a reflection of our own hearts. Children (and adults) who read this book can profit from Mirror's mistakes, learning a priceless life lesson through the story of Mirror of the Carousel. --Deborah Brunt
A great book for children and anyone who loves a ride on a carousel horse! The reader is taken back to a time when things moved slow and hand-carved carousel animals were truly a treasure. The authors introduce the reader to the master craftsman who gave life to Mirror, the painted wood horse. The summer of music and carousel magic comes to a close and the carousel is stored for the winter. Mirror is befallen a trip to storage and finds himself in a junk store, where he discovers that being the center of attention can be short lived. The story provides many life lessons and the most important is revealed on the final page: 'Mirror knew his beauty was not of his own making. He was the reflection of the love of the craftsman.' This is an easy read with colorful illustrations that complement the life story of Mirror the Carousel Horse. This is a wonderful addition to any child's book collection or therapeutic riding center library. --Karen Schrepel, NARHA Region 8 Representative
