Superb solo recital,

Jacky Terrassan's solo recital (an appropriate term for this classical-like CD) is very interesting and creative. Whether it is the African inspired Caravan, deeply felt, beautiful ballads like You've Got a Friend and Everything Happens to Me, or original compositions/improvisations, this CD gives a clear picture of Terrassan's unique and considerable talents. I highly recommend this beautifully recorded CD.

Jacky Terrasson is back. Back with his beloved Steinway piano and with it, all colours, timbers, subtleties that are the signature of Terrasson's music. A solo piano album is not an easy choice but perhaps is an unavoidable one at his stage of a career.Caravan is orchestral, colorful, almost perfumed, infused with images and variety. But it is "everything Happens to me" that really brought it home and was so intimate, like a confession about harder times... Sophisticated as mentioned by one reviewer, musical, personal and intelligent. it is also well recorded. Classical pianists could learn a thing or two from him...

I was selling jazz Cd's when I heard CD's like "Reach" on Blue Note and "Love Man" on Venus both of which I really liked. But Terrason seems to have a hard time deciding on styles (one CD he is straight ahead with a great touch next it's that dreadful M-Base stuff). Here mixing originals and chestnuts I just coudn't dig it.Ken Dryden gave it 4.5 stars at [....] so maybe I am no "professional".But to me it's over indulgent slop that soon will have him on a "precious" level with Brad Mehldau. You might find different but I was disappointed.Cheers Chazz

i found it to be relaxed and sophisticated; the sort of music to put on when you want to impress your one night stand the next morning...the song choices and arrangements were definitely on... g |
