Great collection of songs!, February 19, 2008
If you like the vocals and keyboards of Gary Wright ("Oooh Dream Weaver") and the crunchy guitar of Mick Jones (Foreigner's guitarist) then you'll probably enjoy this album.
It's the only Spooky Tooth release I've heard, and it's my understanding that it's more poppy than the others, which were more bluesy/gospel influenced. The songwriting is really strong on The Mirror, ranging from straight ahead rockers to somewhat spacy mid-tempo things. The vocals are very impressive, lots of trading verses and harmonies.
Frame of reference: lots of keyboards, but not so moody as Stevie Winwood/Traffic; lots of rock, but not so heavy as Deep Purple or Uriah Heep. Highly Recommended!

The last album for a very long time from this band, November 14, 2009
I have to admit, I wasn't all that knowledgeable about this band or its history in 1974-75 when I first heard this album. I knew of them; I'd seen their albums in the stores. I first heard the nine-minute "I'm Alive"/"The Mirror" medley on Montreal's king of rock radio, CHOM 97.7 FM...and I was instantly hooked. The leadoff track "Fantasy Satisfier" sounded to me like a great concert opener; "The Hoofer", the albums' closing track has a nice little funky touch to it, and the medley of "I'm Alive" and the title track sounded perfect on the radio.
Little did we know at that point that Gary Wright was about to explode as a solo artist with his "Dream Weaver" album two years later, or Mick Jones would do the same as head of Foreigner in 1977. That said, I had to pick this album up, and despite what many have said about not caring for the change in the band's lineup, set aside for a moment what band this is and just listen to the music. I found plenty to love about this album. Very tightly arranged, awesome vocals and writing in my opinion. Regardless of whether or not this was the album to bring down this band and put them on a very long hiatus, to these ears it sounds like the building blocks for Mick's career with Foreigner, and Gary's vocals are right on the money. I enjoyed this one from start to finish.
