I found this CD totally by accident when out record shopping. I had to have it since I love the DVD and Sarah's more recent concert film, "Afterglow Live".
Though I've been wondering for AGES why they didn't just release the whole concert audio when the original Mirrorball CD came out some 10 (?) years ago. Needless to say, this concert CD is awesome. It is taken from the last night of the tour in Portland, Oregon. Unlike the previous Mirrorball CD which took songs recorded throughout the tour, this is all one show. I believe it's the same show taped for the DVD. It's great to finally get all the songs that were missing from the original CD, like "Vox" and "I Will Not Forget You", to name a couple. I don't like how the tracks are not seamless, as each track begins from complete silence to a fade in to a fade out and silence between songs. When I buy a concert CD, I like the seamless transision between songs. It feels like you're experiencing the concert again. The seamed songs do take away from the recording, but only barely. Overall, this CD is a great release and worth every penny.

Unfortunately for the wallet, and fortunately for Sarah McLachlan...,

...this really is worth buying even if you already own the original Mirrorball. There are enough songs on here that aren't on the earlier release, including a far more generous selection from her first two albums (Vox, Into the Fire, I Will Not Forget You in addition to Path of Thorns), to make it worth the price. The album as a whole also has a much better sound - it's less produced and actually sounds live, unlike parts of its very polished predecessor. It does bug me that they didn't just release the complete concert in the first place though.

I am usually quite miffed when Sarah and Nettwerk decide to re-release old Sarah songs but in this case I am *very* happy! This two-disc edition of "Mirrorball" is perfect for long-time Sarah fans as it covers her first four (and best) albums and it isn't as polished as the 1999 release. The sound quality is excellent and it almost feels like being at a McLachlan concert. An excellent addition for die-hard Sarah fans!

I wasn't a Sarah fan in 1999 when the "Mirrorball" tour came through my backyard, where "Mirrorball" was recorded live, at Portland Oregon's Rose Garden. But I had become a fan, and was at her show, when she came through with the "AfterGlow" tour. By the time "AfterGlow" was out, I had just discovered the original Mirrorball CD and DVD, and up until the release of this 2-CD set, the original "Mirrorball" live CD and DVD were my "most played" CD and DVD of my whole 700+ various artist collection. But even before finishing the first CD of this 2 CD set, I know that I had to have another copy for the car. Sarah Fan? You must buy this now. I promise you won't be disappointed. It is the full show, with all of her interactions with the crowd, and the sound is better than either of the previously released Mirrorball CD and DVD titles. I love live music, and this set is a dream come true. Sarah is a true performer "live", and I think is actually at her best when performing "live". Absolutely amazing recording and performance on this newly released 2-CD Full Concert Live set. And if you get a chance to see her perform, pay whatever it costs to see her show.

Sarah is one of my all time favorites. We already had the first Mirrorball c.d. and were skeptial about buying this one. She had some additional songs on this version and honestly it's been a great addition to our collection!

But this one is a masterpiece. Filled with stunning vocals and beautiful lyrics, this compilation of McLaughlan's first four albums is an amazing collection for any fan to own.

I was so surprised when I came across this CD in my local music store. Ever since the Mirrorball CD and DVD came out in 1999 I've wished that the audio CD contained all twenty-three songs. Now it does! I wonder why it took so long?

This double CD set is amazing and helped me through one, if not the toughest time of my life. Sarah's voice and music is incredible. I love all of these songs. "Witness" is so much better on here than the original recording. As I listen to this now, it gives off a completely different feeling than her studio albums. Thank you Sarah for all of your beautiful music.

The majority of my favorite songs are on Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, so when I found this after having bought the original Mirrorball and the DVD, I snapped it up immediately so that I could have the DVD on CD. The songs are not as polished as the original Mirrorball, but it's not as if the songs aren't up to the same standard - it's just a different performance.
If you're a fan, you must have this. There's more energy in the live versions than in the album versions, and if you haven't been to a Sarah concert (like me) it will likely give you the urge to go. |
