Editorial Reviews

Product Description

"Maria definitely has a tough life; she has a horrible father that hurts her, a mother who follows everything he says and friends who aren’t there for her. All she wants is to get into a college far away from everyone and everything. While dreading another meeting of suitors and dealing with her fathers anger, a new student comes to her school. She feels an instant connection, Alan is every bit of the hot boy in school and Maria knows that every girl in the school has her eye on him. The story moves along with Alan and Maria getting to know each other, but his personality slowly changes and he becomes something more dangerous than she was ever prepared for." - Seeing Night Reviews

"This book will definitely make you question the little choices in life." - Mary Beeson from Mystic Thoughts Book Reviews

"I just could not put this one down. It is very well written" - Chantale from Geeky Girl Reviews

Her academy’s community service program brought them together. Time and tide drew them apart. From the day Maria met Emma, she knew the little girl was different. An orphaned seven-year-old whose unnatural ability to recreate the past was even more frightening than the story of her family’s death. Obligatory time at White Crest Hospital soon became treasured time as ninth grader Maria Jaghai became friends with the child who spoke of a living dead brother.

But with the next school year looming and her own less-than-ordinary problems to worry about, Maria Jaghai moved on with her life and didn’t look back upon the child whose name she allowed to become a distant memory. Now as a high school senior, the present is Maria's only concern as she desperately plots to prevent an arranged marriage her parents are planning before she graduates. A new and pleasant distraction comes in the form of a handsome student named Alan, but behind his smiles lie dark intent, and soon the truths about the forgotten little girl and the horrors that haunt the child’s family come crashing down upon her. Maria will quickly learn that you cannot forsake your friends; you cannot control your fate; and you cannot escape the ghosts of your past. To heal the past and secure the future, Maria must leave the world she knows for a world of magic, wars, and fate science. The strange ride into fate begins with this first installment of “The Mirrors of Fate Trilogy".

The Mirrors of Fate: Out of the Past

I was pleasantly surprised with this book, coming to read it with no real set of expectations. I ravaged the pages as I read through it with a breakneck pace. I was carried off in this girls world and taken for one hell of an emotional ride. Do not pass up this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Mirrors Of Fate, March 23, 2011
This review is from: The Mirrors of Fate: Out of the Past (Kindle Edition)
Maria is an 18-year-old girl from White Crest City in Kentucky. She was adopted by an Indian family when she was 6. When Maria was 14 her father told her that when she turn 20 he was going to pick the man she will marry. Maria can't date any guy she likes because her father won't accept it but, when the new guy Alan starts showing interest in Maria she finds herself liking him back. What Maria doesn't know is that Alan is not who he says he is and he's back for revenge.

This book was hard to get into but after page 30 it moved a little faster. The author created good regular characters but some of the words were complicated and it made it hard to read. I didn't like that Maria didn't have any support from nobody and everybody kind of use her through the book. I liked most of the characters but, I liked Alan the most. I kind of understand why he behave the way he did.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read, March 21, 2011
This review is from: The Mirrors of Fate: Out of the Past (Kindle Edition)
Review contributed by "Rosalie D."

I'm not cool enough to have my own book blog, but I did have the pleasure of getting an ARC of this and this review is a long time coming. It was an enjoyable read. You can't help but root for the main character Maria whose every clutch at happiness seems to be pulled right from under her feet. She's got mean parents, "Mean Girls" type frenemies, and a future everybody wants to mold. But even with all her depressing situations, the author still pulls off a spunky character as Maria tries to shape her own destiny despite her looming arranged marriage date. Usually I don't like the teen angst element in YA stuff, but I can forgive it this time since Maria's situation is so particularly unforgiving.

You more hate-love that darn male protagonist as you begin to learn his intentions for Maria are less than genuine, but once you learn he's got some para-extraordinary baggage, some readers thoughts may change. This is just a part one to a trilogy, so you'll be left with some questions. I liked the way the chapters drew you along to want to find out the answers to those questions though, but don't expect to get them all in this one sitting. You've also got a lot of interesting characters. It's got some dark material, and I was creeped the heck out by the teacher character, but he's obviously supposed to be that kind of creepy teacher in high school who was always trying to impress the girls. The prologue I'd say is pleasantly weird, but it's imahginative and ties in well to the story. A nice read. Well-written. I didn;t see the ending coming, semi-cliffhangerish, but I'm looking forward to more.
