I have been a fan of salsa for about 12 years now. I own everything from Marc Anthony to Tony Vega to Grupo Niche. There are many kinds of salsa- some romantic & melodic and others are smoking & erotic. Most of Jose Alberto's music is both. Jose Alberto aka: "El Canario" (the Canary- he whistles during certain songs and also does a little "caw! caw! trademark sound like a bird in certain songs. Most salsa singers have a pet phrase too. Jose was born in Dominican Republic & moved to Puerto Rico at 7) has a sound- especially his orquesta- that ROCKS the house. Sincerely- the rhythm & horns in most of his songs are just primal and loaded with a driven erotism that is contagious- in the best way!!
This particular album is awesome because it features many of the hits that Jose made famous during his RMM days. "Bailemos otra vez" (Let's dance again) is an upbeat & happy sounding song that is also romantic (the music video is done in a classy black & white- classy like the song itself.)
Desculpame Senora, Mis Amores are both big hits with a reason. They're good danceable songs that are upbeat both in beat & lyrics. But my favorites are "Hora que me llamen voy," and "Critica." These 2 songs are SMOKIN' HOT!! The chorus on both is just wild. Percussion & horns take over & kick butt.
Another great song on here is "Llego el sabor" with Oscar de Leon. One of Jose's dreams was to record with him & this song is the result. Their both great performers & both have great voices. They sound fabulous together. And if all this wasn't enough- there are some smooth romantic songs like, "Hoy quiero confesar" (Today I want to confess) is a really sweet love song. Great lyrics & a smooth sound.
Over all- I am EXTREMELY happy with this purchase. This is an album that will stand the test of time. I had a different album of his before & loved it. This "Mejores Canciones" is just that- The best songs of Jose "El Canario" Alberto. If you buy this- you will NOT be disappointed!!! The whole album is FUN! I was lucky enough to see him in person during an L.A. concert called "La Combinacion Perfecta" (with Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Oscar De Leon, Tony Vega, La India and Tito Nieves) and you could say that this CD IS The Perfect Combination! 5 stars *****
