This is Albita's first new album in 5 years. Albita is an extraordinary artist and personality, and this album is a great addition to her roster, considerably stronger than 2004's Albita Llego. The album overall is a very high energy album, primarily salsa. The title tune is great, and Soy Una Mujer is amazing - one of Albita's best songs, with a very cool groove. Most of the album is consistently high quality. Even Belso Malo, which I at first disliked, I know like a lot. The only song that doesn't do a lot for me is the duet with Gilberto Santa Rosa, and the final Potpourri Cubano is just OK. Overall the album is very boisterous and a real party, not unlike her perhaps best album, Una Mujer Como Yo. I think Mis Tacones might actually surpass it. Check it out! This might be a good time to survey all of Alibta's albums. They are all really unlike each other, each offering a unique facet of this amazing artist. 1. No se Parece de Nada (1994?) **1/2 The first two albums are from shall we call it her Annie Lenox period? This is good generic Albita, definitely showing her youth. A couple of good songs, but not quite as good as you might expect from an Alibta/Estefan debut album. 2. Dicen que.. (1996) *** This is a very odd album, totally different from No Se Parece even if she still looks like a man. It is very folksy and earthy, relying heavily on a African sounding chorus, Albita often coming across in the songs as lead singer. The opening El Chico Chevere has a very hot video on line, the Organ song is my favorite! Both of these albums have good songs, but are uneven and don't show the mature Albita. 3. Una Mujer Como Yo (1997) **** Now there HAD to be a /Albita/Kike Santander collaboration, and this does not disappoint. The combination is a knockout, and I think the quintessential Albita. Has always been my favorite, tho Mis Tacones comes close. From the very first entrance in the first cut, you have the essence of what Albita is all about. 4. Son (2000) **** Totally switching gears, Albita offers her take on old Cuban songs plus a few of her own. This is the sophisticated intellectual Albita, and is superb in every way. 5. Hecho a Mano (2002) *** Another change, here we have the Albita "Singer Songwriter Album". A more low key effort, with Albita leading with a very mean guitar, and a small ensemble. The songs tend to be a little too similar to each other, but it is a good album. Muriendo de Amor is my favorite. I was skeptical, but definitely worth having. 6. Albita Llego (2004) **1/2 Although this won a Grammy and was a hit, I find Albita Llego one of her less interesting albums. It is different, of course, kind of a contemporary, jazy, modern, I don't quite what. It just doesn't seem that special to me. 7. Mis Tacones (2009) **** A real winner! Top salsa mostly by Albita, great sophisticated arrangements. Yeah, I think it's her best ever. Best albums: Una Mujer Como Yo, Son, Hecho a Mano, Mis Tacones
